I sell six flavors of root beer through my online store. When someone orders a 2, 4 or 6-Pack, they need to be able to tell me which of the six flavors they want for each bottle. All of our packs are mix-'n-match so a 2-pack would need a flavor option drop down for bottle one (with six options) and a flavor drop down for bottle 2 (with six options).

I see where I can add up to five fields to an item listing so I'm assuming I can add 2 drop downs with six flavor options each for the two packs and 4 drop downs with six flavor options each for the four packs. How do I set up the six packs????? I need six drop downs, each with the six flavor options, so the buyer can tell me what six flavors they want in their order.

Thanks very much.

Andy.

Hi there Andy,

I have run into this dilemma too. What I ended up doing was creating some sub categories. In your case you should separate your products and post them into 3 sub categories (2 Pack, 4 Pack and 6 pack). Then add the flavor choices to each one of those products. This will allow you with enough drop downs to complete each product.

Hope that makes sense.

Not sure if this ever changed in the program, but I'm pretty sure there is a limit to only 5 dropdowns per product. That might be a limitation that won't accommodate the 6 pack as you would need 6 dropdowns.

The only way I could see this working is if you were to limit the online ordering to 2 of each flavor (needing only 3 dropdowns) when ordering 6 packs.

Hope that helps, and if the limit of 5 has changed hopefully someone will let us know. :)

You can have 5 drop downs and each can have at least 50 choices.
I can't hear what I'm looking at.
It's easy to overlook something you're not looking for.

Right so that means it won't work for his 6 pack as he'd need 6 dropdowns with multiple choices. :/

Why not have the 6 pack and all the choices under one dropdown? I think that's pretty much what Steve is suggesting. Seems ok to me.:)

I guess Steve will need to clarify that if so then as I didn't read it that way at all. I read it as separating the packs as a separate product with the drop downs for just the flavors rather than packs "and" flavors.

Either way what you suggest would probably be the best way, providing they don't have a ton of flavors that is :P

I appreciate all the input. With only 5 drop-downs it won't work exactly as planned so I came up with the following solution. When someone buys a six pack of soda they click on a specific product like root beer or sarsaparilla. That means the first bottle in the pack will be root beer or sarsaparilla. They will then have the option to select the other five bottle favors from each of the five drop downs. The default value for each drop down will be the flavor of the product selected. That way if someone clicks on the product "Root Beer Six Pack" the default configuration is six bottles of Root Beer.

I'm hoping my customers will be able to work with that as I can't come up with any better idea. I'm always open to suggestions though.

Thanks.

Andy.

that's actually a clever way around that Andy. Nice job, I would think your customers will be just fine with that as the dropdowns are very visible and easy to see the flavors that have defaulted. Just make sure to put something in the descriptions showing that they can choose other flavors for the other 5 so they know to do that as well and you should be set to go. Good luck with it! :)
