I am getting rather frustrated with this. I am using the trila version before buying I just wanted to check it out a bit more. I have put on a few products and set up categories and then exported to a csv file. Open with Excel and all looks good. Tried to copy a line but change ever so slightly. Put a ne SKU number in saved and tried importing. It seems to be going fine until error pops up as follows.
What have i done wrong??

Column 16 not valid.

Those errors mean you have not properly formatted your CSV file according to the specifications.

I have done all that is asked. I have exported existing list and the copied a line but change the naming and image location and then tried importing but it fails every time.

I have now tried exporting just the image file. Put in the missing image locations saved and tried to import but keep coming up with the column errors. There are now only 6 columns in the csv file when opened in excel but still get the same message as above.

I would suggest comparing your file with our sample csv file and see what the differences are.

Try exporting the CSV and don't make any changes to it and then import it back in to a new test shop. If it works then the changes your making are the problem.
I can't hear what I'm looking at.

I have solved the problem. I tried as suggested exporting then re importing with no changes - that was fine.

I then just did a price export made the amends then imported - that was fine.

It was only when I attempted to add images that it got all stuck. I opened the csv in notepad and noticed that at the end of the lines where I had added an image file location it did not put any commas afterwards so I put the required amount in saved and lo and behold it works. Bit of a pain though as if I amend my spreadsheet I then have to go into CSV file to add commas to the lines I have amended. The Column number actually refers to the product line number.

I have changed the title of the image columns in excel so that I put the main image in the last column which has been renamed image0 and the first of the image columns is now image4. This means I do not have to add commas in before I import.

To add to this post, Here are a few things I discovered while doing a mass import via csv. Check out this post, and look at the last page. It's the only really helpful page. All the other pages are trying to figure it all out. Good luck!

oh and a hint - add your sub-categories to your CSV file b/c you can only add products to sub-cats one at a time.......... yeppers, oooooooone at a time. I hope that they're workin' on that fix in the next release.

Enjoy!
