I have tried countless times to convince you to get a discount program set up to no avail. Now my client has gotten emails from other people and here is what they wrote:

Robb, Nobody is going to find you. with the way your site is written and link/
You have to change the listing. no one will find you and you should be selling tons!

It is written wrong and using Coffee Cup (which is total junk) you are limiting yourself to no result.

Like just a quick example

if you check you link

http://www.posteralley.ca/shop/viewitem … ductid=435

That is bad SEO practice, the productid=435 should be something more like

http://www.posteralley.ca/shop/bon-jovi … -can-tour/

That is just one of many example that would definitely help you out with google.

It's all little things that at the end, give out a poor results on google.

Are you using google analytic at all?

You have no discounts, The home page should go direct to the front page. Not "enter here"
There is no indication of payment option opn home page. Why is there no PAYPAL logo?
No size info on image description page, need more detail to help the consumer make decision.
You need to make changes in these area to start finding traffic. You have a great product there. I searched and found very few the same. Good name.
Some links you can remove.

You need to talk to whoever built this for you. Or I can bring this to life. You should have sold more than 10 posters since Feb.

I can offer more if you need. But free advise.. well. But I could have fun with this for sure.
Best.
Pierre.

So how can I get this software to have a desrcription for each page instead of this:
http://www.posteralley.ca/shop/viewitem … ductid=435

I lost my scc file that had the full site, how can I get all the information back? I only have an scc file of when I first started and it only a dozen or so items, not hundreds.

Well Dan I don't know where to start so I'll start with your last post and say.... why weren't you making backups and keeping them in a safe location for emergencies like this? That has nothing to do with the program, it's user error there :P Anyways, if you lost it you lost it, there's no way to pull it back in. I would suggest next time that you keep a copy on a regular basis (once a week at least if you're still adding things to a shop) in a separate location from the drive the shop is built on.

As for your first post... well... over 75% of what you listed there from whoever sent that is also user error. There is explicit SEO capabilities built into the program, (at least in the Pro version, not sure on the Basic) and that all needs to be done for each product. You need to put in the time to get the results same as you would for any other shop system.

I'll list here the things that the program has no control over other than the user inputting the information to a page or location in the site:

1. Paypal Logo, that's part of the SCD Pro version if I recall and you can opt to have it show when you're setting up the themes.

2. Google Analytics is not something you do with the cart program. It's done manually yourself.

3. You can offer discounts just fine, just not with coupons. You can easily put items on sale within the program and change them back just as easily. Yes coupons are needed, but it's still doable to run sales. Once again that is something you need to do in the program it's not done for you automatically.

4. No Paypal logo? No size info? What kind of statement is that to make on this forum? Has nothing to do with the program, has to do with the user not putting that on the pages or in the product details. :P

You need to talk to whoever built this for you. Or I can bring this to life. You should have sold more than 10 posters since Feb.

This statement tells you it all, whoever "built" this for you... that's you silly! There's a ton of things you can do with this program, but you have to put in the time and the work, it's not going to do it all for you. Details and images are things you have to put in. SEO information is what you need to put in. It's all in there, just use it as intended and you should be fine.

If you don't believe me, ask Viv how his shop is going. He's been pretty busy with his for quite some time all built with SCC and SCD (might be pro versions, probably is), and VSD. Good luck with it and hope that answers some of your questions.

P.S. Also that statement and most of what's listed there, while true as to what is needed on the shop, are definitely indications of someone trying to win your business over to him, and if you're the one making the money making the shops, I would highly suggest you get on your tail end and start working to keep them. :)

i must have overwritten the .scc file. So now I have to basically reput hundreds of items? I have tried searching for my site www.posteralley.ca/shop on google with search words that I have placed with the SEO section in great detail and the site never shows up. I still am trying to absorb that there is no way to rebuild the .scc file. I have spend countless hours tweeking this site so I am at a loss to why the site never shows up amongst the rest of the poster sites.

All I can say is backing up your work is most definitely your responsibility with any program you use. The program gives you save capabilities that help you keep it saved at all times in whatever interval you choose, but backups are not something most programs do automatically, you usually have to do it manually by either pressing a menu item in the program or by copying the files over. In this case copying the files over would have been the thing to do. Wish it were easier, but you won't find any other program doing that for you on a regular basis (or at least not many).

Unfortunately that leaves you with having to redo it by hand. How did you lose it to start with? Crash and burn, or what happened? Either way, not much anyone can do to help you with that problem at all, even the CC gurus can't return a backup for you.

A good thing to do also would be to create a protected directory on your server (or a server) and upload the files there periodically for safe keeping, or back them up to an external hard drive. Back them up! That's the main thing there.

As for the SEO I am not sure why it wouldn't work for you, I would have to see what it all looks like and .. well... I'm off to VEGAS! So my mind is not on checking your site out sorry lol. Have a Happy Thanksgiving and good luck on whatever you decide to do.

I was able to rebuild my present .scc files by retrieving the products.xml and categories.xml on the server!

Now I need help to get this site visible some how.
I also would like to remove the /shop so that www.posteralley.ca would take one directly to the shopping cart.

In SCCP click on the Server button. It should display a popup with your server settings. At the bottom you will see 'Remote Folder: /shop/' Simply delete the '/shop/' and leave it blank. This should publish your shop to your root directory. Of course, any other files in your root with the same name will be overwritten so make sure this is what you really want to do.

hello Gunsmoke, I did that and everything uploaded fine. I cannot seem to find the index.php file, why is it not uploading? Or do I have to rename another file to index.php?

Shouldn't have to rename anything. It should have published. I'd try again, no telling what other files may be missing. If it still doesn't then I don't know what the problem is. You might try just copying the files from your /shop folder.
