custom menu - Post ID 172262
I have downloaded the trials of SCCP and SCCD to see what is possible. The main thing that I am struggling with is the ability to customize the menu. When you open up a template the menu tabs are shop home, categories and view cart. I see where I can add another Page but I want to add products to another page or virtually create another categories page. The reason for this is that I have a lot of categories and subcategories and Im trying to keep it from getting so congested and make it a little more user friendly. I cant seem to find a way to do this in SCCP or SCCD. Just so you will have a little insight into what I am trying to do, I want to create an online store for an physical golf shop. It will have 2 categories with 7 subs, 1 category with 5 subs and 1 category with 4 subs. What I really want to do is list the 4 main categories in the main menu and have there respective subs listed with them and then I could break it down another level if needed in some places. Is this currently possible or will be possible in the very near future?
Hiya Justin,
Unfortunately (and I really agree it could use a bit more tweaking in the Categories setup and ability to create more product pages as you mentioned), it's not a possibility at this time. Right now all the categories and subcategories will show up in the Categories drop down menu or side menu if you have a vertical menu. Vertical menus do give you the option of showing all your categories in the list where as horizontal menus will be a drop down always.
You can change the names of a few of the pages such as the Categories page (done in SCCP itself), but the functionality remains the same no matter what you name it, and it's not possible to add pages to add more categories onto them.
As for the subcategories, right now it is limited to 1 deeper than a main category only so it's also not possible to create subcategories 2 or more levels deep at this time. We have been asking for this feature though and you're more than welcome to add your voice in the Suggestions thread for SCCP. The more voices heard, the better chance something might get added if it's in the scope of the program's goals of being user friendly and easy to use, and without having to create databases.
Hope that answers most of your questions and if not please ask some more

Thanks for the feedback Jo Ann. You have a great site by the way and some really nice pieces.
Yeah I will definetly add my two cents to the suggestions page. SCCP and SCD is a really great software but you are somewhat limited due to the lack of menu custimization.

Thanks for the nice comments. And yes, there's a lot to be said for more customization features and hopefully we'll see some in the future updates. I know there has been a lot of feedback for that so we'll just have to wait and see

Jo Ann,
How do I setup a vertical menu as you mentioned above?
How do I setup a vertical menu as you mentioned above?
Hiya Joseph,
That would be by using a theme that already has one setup. There are quite a few themes included and many many more for sale here on the CC shop. I don't remember if there's a blank type theme that has the vertical menu or not, but check that too and see. The easiest way though would be to choose a theme that has it integrated already.

Hmm. Under the "Themes" tab, I have a dropdown box where I can choose between "My Themes" and "Pro Themse 1024px" When I select My Themes, the box below is blank. Under the Pro Themes, all of the themes that I can choose from have horizontal nav. I can't find "Blank vertical nav." Do I need Designer to access that?
Its in my SCCP under pro themes, BLANK in both page widths
Might be worth checking your CC acount downloads section to see if its in there waiting to be added
