Its all about troubleshooting. :D

If you are using a fixed width template centered on the screed and attempt to match both sides with a background image, that won't well because of differences in screen resolution from PC to PC. You might get it to look just fine on your 17 inch standard monitor and think all is well but in my 21 inch wide screen, it won't look as good as you think.

It should work if the tile function is working properly. It should be able to just tile along the horizontal axis ad infinitum.

Using the Cart designer programme I have changed the top part of the page for the site on which I am working, but even though I save the revised template under a different name, and then open my shopping cart programme, go to the My Themes, click on the new design, which I exported from the design programme, save the new shop and then check a sample product with my browser, everything is where it should be.... except the new banner header!

No matter what I do, I cannot get that new header/banner to appear. Any suggestions would be welcomed.

Many thanks

John when you open Shopping Cart Creator and open your shop and then go to Theme ...is your new theme there to select?
I know you believe you understand what you think I said...but I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not exactly what I meant.

You can also try Save As instead of Export. That's what I do and I have not had any problems.

Thanks for the suggestions. The revised template appears in both the "My Themes" list and also under the original list of themes that comes with the Shopping Cart programme.

I have just gone into the cart programme, opened up the site project on which I am working and have selected the new theme (new design I created). Then I clicked on one product so that I could view the finished page in my browser.

The page appears with everything that should be there, except for the banner header and yet, when I clicked on the theme from my list, the page with the correct header shows up in the window on the right that previews your selection (showing thumbnails of the different pages) before you actually choose the theme you want.

There is nothing at the top of the page which indicates the programme might be calling for the banner picture (like a square with a red cross in it to show a missing file).

What I will do next, as a thought, is to "switch on" the logo box in the designer programme, and try replacing the small square logo with the banner .jpg and change the dimensions. I will keep you posted as to progress, but am still open to suggestions from others who may have experienced the same problem.

Now that I think about it, this has happened to me once. The problem as I recall was related to the disproportion that can occur in the designer program. I am not sure if you are using pro or not, but if you are this was fixable by adjusting the padding/margin settings for the content portion. In my case the banner was there, but it was pushed too far up and/or too far down. I remember messing around with the margin/padding settings to fix this.

Is the content portion part of your store almost to the top of the page or is there a blank space there for a banner?

The page is tight up against the top of the browser window, so there is no apparent gap for a "missing" element in the page.

I have just made a couple of changes to the settings and have a result!

Originally in Designer Pro I had the banner in the "Header Background" slot and marked as 'Visible'. I had nothing down for the Logo, which I had removed by clicking the red button with the white cross as the 128 x 128 standard logo was obscuring part of the header.

What I did was to treat the "Header Background" as 'transparent' (thus removing the jpg I had originally used and which appeared in the themes pictures) and then replaced the 128 x 128 logo with my banner which is 750 x 108.

In other words my whole banner picture becomes the logo, but with larger dimensions than the logo supplied with each template.

The result is that my test page in the browser shows with my banner picture.

All is well with the world! :)

Thanks for your suggestions. I hope the solution will benefit others who come across this problem in the future.

Good, I am glad it all worked out.
