i've read some comments on this board that it's only for prototyping.

what does it do exactly?
does it at least export a CSS file that i can use to style a website, in conjunction with HTML Editor?

will there be a demo so we can try before we buy to see what we can do exactly with this thing?

Hi Vincent welcome to the forums,

Yea you can see what its about here:
http://www.coffeecup.com/help/articles/ … art-guide/

It's a layout maker not a web designer. Once your done with your frame work it spits out the css and html pages. You then add content and modify css as needed.

Hope this helps

At this time we are not offering any trial versions for RLM. On March 25th the program will be officially released and you will have access to a trial version at that time.

Responsive Layout Maker creates a responsive prototype website which is a fancy word for layout. You can create the backbone of the website and then export it to any web editor and add your content and images.
Learn the essentials with these quick tips for Responsive Site Designer, Responsive Email Designer, Foundation Framer, and the new Bootstrap Builder. You'll be making awesome, code-free responsive websites and newsletters like a boss.

Steve, you should post the links here for your 'Before and After' look. That I think is the best example of what this program does. To be able to see the bare bones the program spits out, then a finished product is just awesome!

Not to mention you did such a great job with it! Kudos!! :D

cool stuff. this looks like exactly what i'm looking for.

this RLM looks like a WYSIWYG interface to build CSS.
which is cool because it's easier to use imo by the looks of it and faster than coding CSS by hand.

the boss wants me to redesign the website at the Hotel so it's more compatible with mobile devices.
really looking forward to give the Trial a workout in a few days. :)

I can see that this software will be great for building new websites, but is it really practical to try and convert an existing site (approx 1000 html pages) into a responsive site?

Woooaaa thats a big undertaking :) But it could be done! You or your client will need to evaluate if the mobile presence is important to your business and go from there. It does seem to be where the trend is going. Please remember this is NOT a website building software. It only makes the barebones frame work to a responsive site. It is up to you to edit the CSS and HTML manually to add content and images.

It can be done if your masochist and looking for savage amusement :P but it's not practical :) That would be a little bit like jogging everyday without headphones

These were very helpful, thanks Steve (I'm back to pester y'all again).

I now see better what RLM does and doesn't do. Because I'm so used to a design process which is possibly @r$e about , ie start with raw content such as <para> delimited paragraphs and then style it the way I want it to look, I am finding the whole concept of starting with layout and shoehorning content into it very hard to get into.

This is a room occupancy and prices chart that I'm working on. I decided first of all what the tables should show, then how to show the differing tariffs, and then hand created the CSS in the HTML editor using percentages and em measures. It's not bad, and in fact works fine down to about 480px wide.

I suspect that using RLM I need to do the exact opposite. I need to have an idea of the overall page layout either on a desktop or a mobile device. and adapt it to other sizes, possibly leaving out or adding extraneous information as I adapt to smaller or larger viewport sizes.

Is that right?

All the Best
Ian
