Hi,

I'm a tad confused as to how I save changes I make. For instance, I create a project on RLM, export this to my desktop. Open it up in html editor and add my content. The following day (after uploading my site to my host), I want to make a few changes... Not only to the content, but the overall project and layout. How do I do this without having to start over?

I mean if I export my new layout, I will need to add all of my content and html changes again won't I?

Apologies in advance for the beginner questions.

Any changes to the actual layout will need to be done in RLM and yes you'll have to re-add your content.
I can't hear what I'm looking at.
It's easy to overlook something you're not looking for.

Doh, I was hoping it would be much easier than that. So I am best completely designing my full website, including every page layout, before adding content? What if I decide I want to add a new page? Do I have the same problem?

No if you add a new page just upload the css folder and the new page. Don't re-upload the others... does that make sense?

Ok so when you create a new page in RLM and export it will export the entire project thus changing the coding on all of your pages again. Just select the "New Page" make your edits and only upload the "New Page" and the entire css folder because on your "New Page" there will be new classes and probably changes to the layout so the css folder would have to be uploaded again.

Remember you don't have to upload all the pages again as the ones you have finished will already be on the server.

Is that clearer?

Yes, thank you. I don't think I'll be confident that I understand until I have actually manage to do it a couple of times. Which will hopefully be in the coming weeks. Thanks for your help.

Keeping in mind that you're only creating the layout for you site in RLM you will "always" want to do your best to be sure your pages are how you want them and have as many of the pages complete as possible before exporting so you don't have the issue of needing to readd your content again later. With that in mind, what Steve is saying is that you'll create your new page in your RLM project, but when you export it you won't be grabbing the entire exported contents for uploading and editing (since you'll already have content in the rest of the pages other than the new one(s) just created). Instead you will only copy the new page files (html files) and the CSS files and put those into your directory for uploading.

I would always be sure to backup your current site files if you do this or at least back up any files you will be overwriting (most likely this will only be the CSS file(s)), so that if there is a problem you can always revert those pages back until you fix it. You should always do this anyways.

For the most part though when you add new pages you'll just use those pages in your website to add the content and you'll ignore the rest unless you edit them. Hope that makes sense. :)

So my plan is to make a site even if it's not perfect to get up and running, knowing I will have to remake the entire site as I learn new tricks and decide on changes I want.
I have been working with a temporary website so I can learn and see how it works.
Took me a while to realize why and how to change the layout on different size screen.
Looking forward to bringing the first site up and then the rebuild. :)
