RLM and VSD

Haven't been up to the community for a while so way behind but got my
"You better buy it or else" email about the hot deal on RLM going away
so decided I better come up and see what it is about. Looks pretty impressive
as far as an easy way to create responsive webs which I really haven't gotten
into though I do have responsive web form builder..
Anyways, probably going to buy it at the hot price because responsive is
starting to interest me and would like to get into it more.

In reading through the RLM threads it was mentioned in one of the threads, I
think by Scott, that it could be used in any web editor, I know that would extend
definitely to HTML Editor 14 but can its capabilities be used by VSD. Don't think
VSD really falls into the category of a web editor as apposed to designer but just
curious if there is potential.

Responsive Layout Maker creates a responsive prototype website which is a fancy word for layout. You build the backbone of your website in RLM and then export it to any web editor and add then your content and images. Because Visual Site Designer cannot open HTML pages, you will not be able to use VSD in any way to work on a layout created with Responsive Layout Maker.

I am sure you are wondering why that is. Visual Site Designer builds websites using "absolute positioning". The means there is no fluid design to your website. Everything has a fixed place within your page. If you want to have a website that is truly responsive, you will need to migrate away from VSD and start coding your website using an HTML Editor (you can use our HTML Editor or any other code based editor). While this may sound overwhelming at first, it is not too difficulty but you do need to have a basic understanding of HTML and CSS to make all this work. RLM produces all the markup for you so you are only swapping out the placeholder texts with your own.

Thanks Scott,
Pretty much anticipated your answer as such but the question lurked in the back of my mind so wanted to make sure there wasn't some potential tie between them.
Have not done any real coding, only touch up, for several years, before css, php, and interactive became popular.
That's why I have VSD. Guess it's time for an old dog to relearn the new tricks.
I do have Editor 14 so between the two it will give me something to do. Even if I give up, I still have VSD.

Bob, We are all waiting for RSD (responsive site designer) to be launched, and the rumour has it, that it will be a tool for non-coders so that they can make responsive sites.
Ha en riktig god dag!

I saw somewhere about RSD mentioned.. dare I ask if there is any word of when this might happen? Also wondering, if this will work totally on it's own, or will we need to use the RLM first, then export into RSD? If it the latter then I will be sure to start working on layout for my sites ahead of time.

I heard the RSD will be a standalone program but you will still need the Menu Builder for your menus. Your suppose to be able to import layouts from RLM.:)
I can't hear what I'm looking at.
It's easy to overlook something you're not looking for.

Also I think I heard that the responsive site designer will be able to open rlmp projects! This is great news if you are currently building in rlmp. You will not have to recreate your current projects.

Adam, if you could answer one question please. Will I need RLM to use RSD effectively? If so, then I'd better buy it now while it's still at a discounted price. If RSD is all I need then I will wait for that.

Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
