RLM and Masonry (Pinterest type)...

I designed the CBCR website two years ago and I am now going to revamp it to make it responsive. I am a non-coder. Before starting the design in RLM, it seems logical to me to first make sure that all the different parts of the website can be responsive. With that in mind, I first worked on a slideshow that will be used to show each individual dog. Eric helped me get part that working. I then worked on the menu, using Menu Builder, and Adam pointed me in the right direction to get that working. The next two parts are to get the CSS Tricks Moving Boxes slider on the homepage responsive and work on the Masonry layout of the adopted dogs pages . The adopted dogs pages were done using Vanilla Masonry, which was the lightweight version of Masonry. It is responsive, once you put in on a responsive page, but the Vanilla version has been depreciated and it is now suggested to use Masonry v3. But I got to wondering, do I need to do that or can I get the layout I want just using RLM?

I want the layout to look the same as it does in the active website (http://www.cbcr.org/adopted_2007.html). Basically there are two different widths of images used, but the heights are not standard. I do not need to be able to add images to this layout because I only create it at the end of the year when the names of all the dogs adopted during the year is known. And I don't need the animation, I don't like the way it currently loads the pages.

I know I need to learn RLM, but do I also need to learn Masonry v3? Also, this article (http://www.theopensourcery.com/keepopen … io-layout/) states: An important point to note is that Masonry v.2.1.08 provides capabilities that are not available in Masonry version 3 including the ability to provide border, padding and background CSS for the Masonry container plus embedding the Masonry container in other wrappers for a structured wireframe layout. Does that mean I will have problems getting it to work in RLM? I don't want to get everything figured out in Masonry v3 and then find out it won't work in RLM.

I am open to suggestions for other ways to get the layout I am looking for. If I could do it all in RLM, that would be wonderful.

Hi Dee,

This is ABSOLUTELY possible to recreate with RLMP. I'm not familiar with Masonry product at all but I can tell you that you can achieve everything you need in this website with Responsive Layout Maker.
Taking over the world one website at a time!

It looks like Flexbox with animation. :D
You can certainly do the layout in RLM. Padding, borders, containers... all standard stuff. The only thing missing would be the js animation when the page gets resized. The boxes would still reflow to fit though.

I don't know if Isotope is easier to use than Masonry, it seems pretty straight-forward:

Isotope was designed by the same guy that designed Masonry. Isotope does more than Masonry. For my purposes, I probably need less.

The thing I like about the Masonry is I can type in my list and then preview it to see if I like it and, if necessary, I just tweak the height of the photos. I am probably going to talk myself into just learning the new version of Masonry.

Either or, RLM just helps you create your responsive layout – you can then add any scripts or elements you want to your site.
