You pasted your slide show inside a button element.
I can't hear what I'm looking at.
It's easy to overlook something you're not looking for.

I thought you could put it inside a button - should it be something else I tried a image but couldn't make the wrap work properly

You can but you have some css being applied to give it a background color.

What do you suggest - change the button to something else to hold the area?

You should be able to remove the css that's placing the background color but really you should place it in it's own column so you have better control of where it goes on break points. It looks like you have the paragraph and the button both in the same column. If you place the button in it's own column you should be able to completely remove it and replace it with your slider.

Would that be why I'm having an issue with the slideshow being totally responsive

Yes it should behave being in it's own column. It looked to be fighting for space with the paragraph.
