Check this bit of text:

"Electrical sensitivity (ES)…..are some "

Try reducing the dots to only three.

Oh, and one more thing:
If you have copied the text from a Word document or something, remove the double quotes and write them in the Editor instead.

Hi all
many many thanks for everbodies input on this

here are my replies

"The strange characters are in the markup when I look at your source code, so in HTML Editor are you seeing them in the markup on your local drive?
Are you uploading the files using the inbuilt ftp or do you use an external client? "

- when I do " open from web" for my page http://www.electricsense.com/index-7-1.html the characters appear, when I look at the source code in my browser the characters are not there, so it seems we are not seeing the same thing? Any changes I make I then upload using the inbuilt ftp.

"What is actually in the place of the strange characters on the page before you made the change? Blanks, different characters, or nothing the characters just magically appear.:)
Can you publish the same page with the free version as a test? "

- line 47 of the source code says "“Beating Electrical Sensitivity – The Path to Tread” examines " but when I do "open from web" this becomes "“Beating Electrical Sensitivity – The Path to Tread” examines" so its blanks, quotation marks and a hyphen which seem to cause the problem. I dont know how to reinstall the free version while I have the paid version already installed...

"As well as what Eric suggests, could you include the .html file index-test.html in a post.

Another thing worth checking is the FTP settings within CC HTML Editor and see if your advanced settings expanded view shows the passive mode check-box checked or not. If the characters you see when published are not actually in the html you are uploading, the issue must be with the way the ftp element is dealing with your server.

Are you using the inbuilt ftp or do you use an ftp client? Also, who is the host? If it is a third party, please try setting up a free S-Drive account and publish the same site to your S-Drive to see if this anomaly manifests itself on there too. That will help us to narrow down the underlying cause.

Thanks,"

-I cant include it as a post for other reasons. The problem with codes appears when I download it from my server, I upload using cchtml editor, I click on the upload icon, then ftp account, hostgator, /public_html. I need to reseach setting up an s-drive

"Check this bit of text:

"Electrical sensitivity (ES)…..are some "

- the dots were in the first version of the page which worked ok with the free version of the editor so it cant be this

"Oh, and one more thing:

I tried this, I still have the problem, see http://www.electricsense.com/index-test2.html

Thanks for your input!!

Switch out the quotes with these.
Right: ”
Left: “
I can't hear what I'm looking at.
It's easy to overlook something you're not looking for.

Where did you pull the text from that is giving you the issues? Did you type it into the free version or did you copy and paste it from somewhere else? If so from where?

If so try this:

Go back to the location that you copied the original text from
Copy it again, now paste it into Notepad (included with windows and usually in the Accessories directory.
Now copy the text from Notepad and paste that into the editor and see if it does the same thing.

Richard,

Check out
http://www.eikweb.no/test2/index-test2.html
and
http://www.eikweb.no/test2/index-test3.html

(I didn't bother with your style sheet or images).

I used your doctype (test2) and the one I suggested earlier in this thread (test3). Both are ok.
I forgot to tell you one thing about the dots: Word makes a special 'thing' out of the three dots, so what you should have done was deleting all the dots that you pasted from Word and then type - as many as you want, actually - directly in the Editor. Word also has a 'thing' with the hyphen. Remove it, and type it into the Editor. As to the double quotes, you can either do what I told you earlier, or use Eric's method. Both are valid html.

View the source code of those files and then you can grab the one you prefer. :)

I did what you said.

Yes, I guess the result would have been the same. Jo Ann beat me to it, she posted a reply while I was still writing mine. ;)

Anyway, glad you got it sorted.
