I have a young lady who wanted to make her own website. I have used some of the CoffeeCup software in the past with good luck so I thought I would work with her on the editor. I told her "Let's read the directions for once and go through the tutorial step by step". We read that the Web Site Project was important to start with so it reads:

Step 1: Creating a Website Project
To create a new Website Project, use one of these options:
• Go to My Websites > New Website Project
• In the My Websites tab, click the Website Projects icon and select New Website
Project

And guess what? We could in no way shape or form find "My Websites" to even start. I looked at all the menus, buttons, pull downs etc. We then experimented and just created a page. That part seemed fairly easy and fun until we wanted to create another page and link it. It then created the new page, duplicated all the directories and made a complete mess. I am very disappointed in this editor, seems like it just plain makes a mess of everything that it should be making easy. I was embarassed that I even suggested using this.

You should learn how to use the editor before trying to help someone else use it. It's that simple.
CoffeeCup... Yeah, they are the best!

You don't believe that showing someone else the process of reading the instructions and then performing the steps is valuable? How else is someone supposed to learn how to use it? It's wrong to explore with someone else? That arguement hold little ground and does not excuse the program and it's instructions from being poor.

You should have better prepared yourself prior to the meeting. It would have saved you the embarrassment of not knowing how to use the program. There is nothing wrong with the program or the instructions. Many, many people use it with great success. To say "sorry this thing is horrible" because you don't know how to use it is not justified.

Now that I see that I know what part of the problem is. First off I was under the impression that there was only one HTML editor and there are in fact two. Most companies have one form of the same tool especially when they do the same job. Anyway I was using the visual editor and downloaded the instructions for the HTML editor. So yay for you my fault.

Hiya Mike,

I'm very sorry you are having a bad experience with the HTML Editor, but I would have to point above me to the image that Lowell has posted that shows that the My Websites is in full plain view. Maybe you assumed it was somewhere else and therefore missed it? I dunno, but it's all right there and creating a website project is very very easy, I didn't even read any instructions and got it setup first try. Take a look at the above screen shot or those below and give it another try.

My Websites >> New Website Project

From there just fill in the information it's asking for which is pretty intuitive and you should be all set.

Also, I apologize about the confusion of the Tutorial, you actually do have a point and you were just looking for something that wasn't obvious and I'm thinking maybe they need to add that image to the tutorial if it's not already there. Here are the screen shots of what the Tutorial was telling you to find, but it's exactly the same thing as in the above screen shot, just 2 different places to get to it for convenience:

Sorry, Mike. I should have asked which editor you were using, but you sounded so sure that you knew what you were doing that I didn't. Hope you figure out how to use VSD. I am not much help with that, since I have only created one site with it.

hehe no worries Mike, you won't be the first or the last to do that type of thing :P Happy building regardless of which program you end up using, they are both great website building softwares :)
