Problems with charset? Cant copy...
If i open a saved document from the internet wich contain such chars like wikipedia and save the document again and reopen it in the same browser, all the chars from other languages like arabic, russian, chinese, hebrew etc. are replaced by a question mark.
Is this a bug? Even if i write with the windows onboard notepad such chars and save it as html i have no problems to see all this chars in my browser... I'm a little bit shocked...
Have anyone an idea?
Currently the HTML Editor can not display double-byte languages when previewed. To have the characters show correctly in the HTML Editor you would need to use the HTML Character Code related to that letter. You can find a full list of these codes here at W3CSchools please note that there is a "Next Reference" link where you can find the character set you are looking for.
We do plan on updating the Editor to support double-byte languages in the near future and I will send this up as a request on your part as well.
But in my opinion this is not only a problem of displaying incorrectly. As i wrote in my last post, i opened an saved article from Wikipedia where u can find a language list on the left side. The languages with for example arabic, hebrew, cyrillian, chinese letters are only displayed by an questenmark in the Editor. If this would be only a problem of displaying wrong, it would be shown right after resaving the html file right? But it dosn't! After resaving and reopenig the article in the same browser, there are only the question marks where you before could see the original letters.
The Editor, thats my conclusion, are unable to handle this caracters in any way. If this would be only a problem of displaying, i wouldn't really care about it.
And thanks for sending this as a feature request.
I appreciate that the robust way is to use the HPTM escape codes but for a quick edit to an exisitng page can end up in creating lots of work.
After a quick edit and upload many (but not all) of the non ASCII characters display as a "?" and need to be replaced one by one. I assume this is the same issue mentioned on this thread. Any news on the progress on the upgrade?
Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
