If the file extension of such orphaned files is known and is unique to the program (now uninstalled or deleted) that created the orphans, a cataloguing program could help. I use WinCatalog, which has a 30 day trial option. The initial cataloguing takes a long time, but, once done, updating the catalogue for a disk/partition is very quick.
Searches can be made for all files with a particular extension.
