Thanks you very much for all your kind comments about the site. The hard work is paying off, but it's getting there. Hey Tassietiger, all images are working....it was theU/C i in the images file name.....der!!
More serious problem folks. I am a bit hot on accessibility, as I am visually impaired and my lady is totally blind and uses a screen-reader. My form: http://www.queens-english-society.com/apply.html is totally inaccessible for screen reader users. It was created in CC Web Form Builder. She is not able to hear any of the labels. There are some other issues with the form, but, depending on the advice I may get, I may have to think the whole thing out again.
Any ideas lovely people?
I do not think there is a "blushing" smiley, but I am blushing

PS the YORKSHIRE accent is safe........great people!

I think the problem with the form and readers is the flash component, so if you definitely need accessibility you may need to use a different option.

It's a very important issue though so hopefully someone will have some ideas for you.
I know you believe you understand what you think I said...but I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not exactly what I meant.

It looks like your right tassietiger, but perhpas I had better to the other tweaks on the site, first.
I don't want to be too heavy, but I guess we should all look at accessibility. My wife and I test websites for their accessibility. She shps online and I have heard her laying into supermarkets on the phone if she cannot use the site. The disabled "market" is a lot of people, who may be looking for our products.
Anyway, this is the wrong forum for this, sorry to take up your time.

Hi Tony, do you know if the screen reader can handle java script?

You can test it on this page, made by our fellow Advisor Fe Pixie: http://www.summerset.co.nz/. If you don't get any error messages it should work. And if so, there is a workaround for your flash content.

Hi Inger, 'LUVLY' to hear from you. Sad to say, Ennis tried the website and attempted to fill in the form to register as a Friend of Summerset,
The screen reader just repeats "edit box" - "edit box" and she does not hear the labels.
I assume the form was designed, as mine in CC Web Form Builder.
Only the other day, Ennis signed up as a registered customer at https://www.waitrose.com/login.aspx
Her screen reader had no difficulty and she was able to complete the form and in facr had the supermarket deliver groceries, yesterday. I do not know how the form was coded in that case.
Because Ennis and I test websites for their accessibilty, professionally, we do take it seriously, recognising that world-wide there are a huge number of people who use adaptive technology and, apart from anything else, this group has a a whole, has huge spending power in the marketplace. They should not be ignored.
It would be interesting to continue the debate with CC as they develop upgrades to their software and Ennis would be happy, as a blind computer user, to assist with feedback. I guess that this particyular forum is not really the place to discuss WEB FORM BUILDER, we may get moved-on. Ha! Ha!
Anyway, what do you think of the new-look QES website and did you enjoy Quest?
Tony :) :)

Hiya Tone,

The form on that site you have a link to is created piecework by hand rather than using a flash or java type setup. This would be something you can do within the HTML Editor. I would love to learn how to set something like that up as I know you have to setup something other than just the elements themselves but I'm not familiar enough with it to know how it is setup on the server and such so that the form works.

Maybe someone here will have some instructions or site links that can help us learn how to do that, I'd love to learn how to code my own forms too.

Anyways that form is definitely hand coded which is why your wife can navigate it as it has all the proper tags needed for Accessibility.

Good luck on it and see ya in a week :)

I believe the only way the screen reader will read this is by hand coding the form. If your form is not too long then it should be no problem for you to google the tools you need to accomplish this. If what you are trying to accomplish is to make the form available for all browser types, then it might be best to create separate style commands in your header for each individual availability you want. You can google CSS alternative formats, or CSS microformats.

The key for the screen reader though is that it has to be readable and/or alternative text, which is why the JavaScript and Flash won't work.

Thanks Eric and Jo Ann
Not now, but when time permits, I shall hand code an accessible form and link from the main form to give viewers an alternative. In the meantime, it's working for most users.
Many thanks

Hi Tony,

Yes, I have been enjoying Quest very much, thank you! I have not had time to view your site thoroughly yet as we are preparing a house for sale these days, and I'm also working on my tax return form, but I will. I will also approach CC about the screen reader issue and ask them if they could think of making their progs usable for that.

And BTW tweaking: Take a look at the application form for membership:The title 'Mrs.' is listed twice, but no 'Mr.'
