Insert Image - Why can't we TYPE in...

Greetings,

For me this is an infuriating problem. I know HTML but I bought CoffeeCup to enhance ease. My problem is that when I click on insert image, I always have to choose a pic from my Hard Drive! If I'm sourcing an image already on the net, then I have to putz around in the code and write a tag from scratch...instead of just being able to type "http://blahblah.com/widget.jpg" in the Image field under the General tab.

I thought that it might be an oversight in the last version, but just getting the new version...I see that I'm stuck doing the same thing. I have permission from an existing website to source their images directly, yet I always have to go through the old throwback method of writing the code myself. This entire situation could be so easily resolved by just removing the restriction on typing in that field.

Is there a fix for this method?

Best wishes,

What program are you using?
if you are using HTML editor you can save that basic..... http://blahblah.com/ .....
as a snippet and then you will be able call it up and paste as required Then all you will need is the name of the actual image which does vary, as you already know. If you are using VSD some one else will have to assist you

Thanks for the reply Tom. I'm using the HTML editor. I'd like to be able to type AND paste into the Image field when I click Insert Image in the WYSIWYG editor. There's no reason that I should have to go into the raw code every time that I need to out-source an image link.

I understand what you're saying, but why should we go through all of the trouble of creating and saving, then executing a new snipet everytime that I just want to insert an image link.

Let me clarify how I use the HTML editor so that I can put others in my shoes. I manage eBay listings for a large corporation. I write the listing up in WYSIWYG then I copy the code from the Text Editor and paste it in the eBay listing box. The company allows me to source all images from their servers for listing purposes. Given that we list hundreds of items, my initial setup of the listing becomes quite the PITA when I have to write a source tag directly for each pic instead of just copy/pasting the location into the WYSIWYG wizard.

I know that CC HTML Editor wasn't necessarily designed for my specific job, but it does it brilliantly save for the image sourcing.

Thanks again, Tom.

I agree with Bob! I have an image url that I wish to use, so I open insert an image and I can't insert in the box! Ouch!

So I have to insert any image and then go to the effort of changing the code to the one I want. Please change this feature.

I'm late to this thread, but I wish to add my vote for adding this feature to CoffeeCup HTML Editor.

Most of the images I use in HTML pages already reside on an image server. I want to be able to simply paste the URL of the image into the Image field in the Insert Image dialog box.

My all-time favorite HTML editor, Macromedia HomeSite, has had this feature for a decade. For professional web development, this feature is essential. Now that I've moved to Windows 7, HomeSite runs poorly, so I was hoping that CoffeCup HTML Editor would be a worthy replacement. It's close, but this missing "Insert Image" capability is a show-stopper.

The CoffeeCup developers should take a look at HomeSite's entire system for inserting and editing image tags. It's by far the best I've seen.

Let me add my voice to this chorus. I'm in the process of switching to CC after using Homesite for many years. The inability to simply insert an image URL in the Image field in the Insert Image window is... well, crazy! Please add this functionality!

When Tom suggested using a snippet to load the image code. It can be genetic. ie Insert the snippet and then paste in the URL in the appropriate position. One snippet does all.

I actually went one step further and created a snippet of an in line css image insertion that allows the placement in any position, over, under or where ever. The editor is such a beautiful tool to use and when used with Wamp it is the best php IDE I have found. If you want WYSIWYG then go for the Visual Site Designer otherwise you turn the editor into the tool you want, it is that flexible.

I will say this, If you really would like to control a program and use its abilities to the max, go the gaming way and suss out Autohotkey, With it you can write scripts to make a program jump to your commands. I will admit you can only command what a program is capable off but some of the abilities can be enhanced in ways unobtainable by normal means.
