I Can't see Edited HTML files with...
I'm new at this and just purchased and installed the new HTML Editor. I made some changes to an HTML file and saved it under a different file name in the Working folder. Windows Explorer can't see the file and neither can my FTP program or any Browsers. I've closed the Editor and opened it up again, and if I select open an existing file the Editor shows that it is in the Working folder. What am I doing wrong the the other programs can't see the file?
Hiya Robert,
Does the file have an extension of .html or .htm? Does it have an extension at all? If so and it's not an .html or .htm what is it? You should be able to find that in the Working directory that lies within the CoffeeCup folder where your program was installed in your Program Files directory. Doesn't sound like it saved the file correctly with the right extension though.

I am using the "Working" directory within the CoffeeCup folder. When I do a mouse over the left side of the Editor where the file shows up in My Computer the Mouse Over indicates the file is HTML. I saved a second file as a php and the Mouse over shows that file as a PHP. but no other program can see these files in the directory........they don't show up at all!
By the sound of it you don't do anything wrong. Do you need to do a refresh of the 'working' directory for it to show up?
Or, maybe you have to look into your Documents, the newer versions of the HTML Editor places a folder there named CoffeeCup software, in there HTML Editor and deep in there again Projects.

I found the problem! With Vista, programs are not allowed to place "data" files in the Program Files directory. When they try, Vista places the files in a "virtual" folder. To the program that created those files it looks like the files are in the folder under the Program Files folder. Since they are not actually stored in the folder under Program Files, other programs can't find them there. I happened to notice a Yellow Button on the top of the Windows Explorer tool bar that said "Compatibility Files". When I clicked on it, the 2 files I created in CoffeeCup Editor showed up. It turns out that the default "Working" folder in CoffeeCup Editor was set to the folder under Program Files, instead of under the folders created during the install in my Documents folder. I created a new "Working" folder there, moved my 2 files into it and changed the default folder for pages that I would work on to point to there as well. Everything is fine now.
The install program for the Editor should be corrected to place the "Working" folder within the Documents folder and not in the Program Files folder.
Things like this make it even more of a challange for me to learn HTML coding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

haha good catch there Robert, and a good suggestion which I would suggest you put on the HTML Editor Suggestions forum so that the devs will be sure to see it easier. Glad you got it worked out though and good luck on the rest of it!

That is strange because when I did my install, it did not work like that. Hummm. It put it under my Documents in a CoffeeCup Software folder.
But anyway, you can easily change your preference for both the working directory and the project folder.
Working directory is the actual directory/folder that your website files are saved for a specific website.
Project Folder is for where all the working directories are saved.
In my case I do not use the standard Project Folder that Coffee Cup sets up. Instead I have a special folder I like, so I created a new project folder.
You can set that by using Tools > Preferences > Click "Folders" Tab
There you can tell the software where to find everything.

It would be nice if the next version came out where you could during the install would give you a choice to install a project folder in a specific directory.

Maybe that changed with the 2010 SE version they published in July 10th.
