Can you confirm generally how your softwares work for updates?
I want to make sure my understanding is right from what I have read on the forums.
I have purchased the egg hunter's $99 special

I have started with HTML Editor. Are they all managed the same way as follows? Note I have 2 questions in italics.

- On "Your Downloads"->"software" tab, the latest version is listed in the Programs column. Clicking that link is the same as using the download button
- The downloads are always the latest full version of the programs [lifetime updates]
- Update process is to uninstall the current version, then download and install the whole program anew.
- There is no 'update' feature in the program itself, but it does contact the CC server and will alert me if an update is available.
- The "Update available" notice on "Your Downloads"->"software" tab is purely informational in that there is no process in the account area to detect or record whether I have already downloaded the latest version. I could judge by the date listed there or open the program and check the version or see if it alerts me.
- No worry about backing up any data/resultant project files [outside of my normal backup schedule], the uninstaller should always leave those behind, and provided media will be replaced. (What about media obtained separately - purchased or freebie .wisp for example - are they safely left behind?)
- Backwards compatibility is not an issue. Just re-open in the new version a file/project made in an earlier version and proceed as normal No conversions needed. (EVEN a few versions later?)

Pretty much as stated. If your working from two computers then you need to confirm that you physically have the most recent by clicking on help then about.

For the most part you have it all correct, but...

Most of the software does not have a version checker, a few do, but for the most part the best way to know is do what Eric and yourself stated, check the About info in the program and compare it to the version number on the downloads page.

Also as for the downloads page. If the link there is saying a new version is available, that means you have never "attempted" to download it. It doesn't keep track to see if you actually installed it, only downloaded it, but it will give you the date you last downloaded it which many times helps. Once you download it or attempt to download it, that button will change and it will no longer say a new version is available, it will just show you a download button with the last date downloaded.

Your media is save, but to be on the greater safe side it's always good to backup your data before reinstalling IF you have your data residing in the default CC program folders. Most people would put their website or image files outside the program location elsewhere in their documents. This makes it impossible for the programs to ever delete them on you even if it gliched or bugged out (never has happened that I've seen so far though).

Sometimes things like Snippets will disappear on reinstalls so you should always save those if you have added any to the folder (HTML Editor Snippets).

I add to what Jo says. Every download every update I have on disk. I know they are always available but in this world nothing is certain. Companies fold. Not saying for an instant that will happen in our life time but having ones own repository of programs purchased just makes sense. I would never want to loose these great programs
