Disappointed with 12.5 previews

I bought a new computer and am having to install the new 12.5 version. I am very disappointed with the preview options - the F12 just gives a narrow slot at the bottom that you have to scroll down to see and the F11 opens a floating window that you have to expand manually and close manualy (no close toggle).
The preview tab at the top was a fast and really useful way to get a rough idea and then go to the external preview to tidy up. I can't understand why this was dispensed with.
Is there an archive site somewhere where I can download the previous version until this is sorted?

The link to the old 12 version is in the install instructions text included with the 12.5 install...

But just so you know the External Preview is still there...

I don't know if this is going to be 'sorted' in the way of getting the internal preview back. I also liked it. But if your computer has a wide screen, you could put the external viewer and the programme side by side. Then you would be able to see your changes right away.

What I'm hoping for, is that we one day also have the option to split the screen vertically, not only horizontally. With the monitor formats of today that is just logical. Some other web builders have that feature.

Hiya Paul,

If I were not already seeing all the myriad of benefits the new system is bringing I would fully agree with you. Trust me when I say there are good reasons for why they did what they did, and that people with multiple monitors are majorly benefiting from the unattached preview window. The things coming up very very soon are going to be extreme enhancements to the program with one of the major changes being that the preview windows will be clickable. And it will go both ways!

This means that we'll now have the ability to click within the Preview windows and it will take us to the code associated with the clicked area. And that when we click in the code area it will show us the location on the preview window. Quite a great feature right there and with the new type of preview windows it makes it much easier than the Preview tab would be.

Give it a go for a little while and see if you can get used to it. I find the Split Screen preview to be easier than the window itself is as I don't have a 2nd monitor... yet lol.

I prefer the new system but I do have a wide monitor. I mainly use the F11 alongside the editor.

Yes, I have two monitors that I use, and I LOVE the new f11 preview pane! It allows me to edit live.

I have a wide screen 22" monitor but side by side I still have to do a lot of scrolling to see everything. Would love to have 2 monitors but unfortunately short on desk space. My workaround so far is to toggle between the icons in the task bar (Win7) - you have to click to get the new code to 'take'. Alternatively for those who like their panes split horizontally, you can do the F11 then right click a blank bit of the task bar and choose 'Show Windows Stacked'.
Even so, it would be useful if there was a keyboard shortcut to toggle the 2 windows - any ideas how to ascribe keys to this anyone? Perhaps PgUp / PgDn when in F12 mode?

I love the F12 split screen, I have a 22 in monitor also and although I do side by side for some things, most of the time it's just not big enough and I'm thinking on getting the 2nd monitor at some point soon myself. Till then though the split screen works just fine. You don't have to click anything to update the code on anything at all and I so LOVE the new feature they added (soon to be released) so that you can actually see the CSS page in action now. This means open an HTML page, open a CSS page, heck open however many you want. Click on an open HTML page and then onto a linked CSS page and now open the preview window of your choice.

This now shows you instantly all changes as you work on your CSS! No more having to swap between tabs to change css then back to html page and preview then back to css page etc. yaaaaay! AND you don't have to save to see these changes this way either! :) *does a happy dance* :)

Stay Tuned, this is being released very soon :)

I'd agree if I didn't have to scroll between my positioning codes at the top and the content below. With F12 you have a choice of fiddling about with the divider or squinting into a slit 2 inches high.

I thought I'd cracked it by using the F10 key - it toggles great between the preview and the editor. However if you try and go back to edit the text the program doesn't let you in unless you click on the editor - but then you lose the F10 facility...

My problem isn't functionality but viewability. I'm surprised CoffeeCup can't sort this.

Back again,

Visited this website - http://dailytechie.com/windows-7-keyboard-shortcuts - to try and get some joy. Thought the Windows button + the Up/Down arrows might work but the preview pane doesn't fully minimise as it should. Then tried the Windows button + Tab but Windows doesn't separate the preview screen from the editor screen. Going to look into how to ascribe the F keys to see if that is a solution.
