Kathy walk through the steps below and let me know how it goes! :)
Step 1:
Download and install the latest version of Direct FTP, 6.9 Build 2004 .
Step 2:
Go into the Edit Menu > Preferences > Editor > Files Tab .
Step 3:
Under "Language Color Scheme", choose "Default". You will then see this:

Step 4:
Remove *.* and replace it with .* (basically, you're just removing the first *) and click OK.

Step 5:
Restart the program.

Kathy,

Since I don't know what kind of 'corruption' you are seeing, this may be a long shot, but make sure the Transfer Mode is set to 'Binary' rather than 'ASCII' under: Actions > Transfer Mode > [auto, binary, ASCII].
Any attempt to upload an image file as ASCII is likely to result in corrupted, distorted images.
