FTP -- weird? slow? - Post ID 80290
I actually went to the free version but I had the registered -- no difference I guess but for some reason, free ftp is very erratic and slow lately.
I'm connected fine but when I try to delete some files, it takes forever and I mean FOREVER..
Could it be my PC tools anti virus or something?
Never had a problem with this program before.

It isn't any of the spkware or anti virus stuff maybe it's lunarpages but it's been doing it for 3 or 4 days.
What exactly was slow, getting connected or transferring files or what?
There will be a new version of Direct FTP out shortly, and for us who are testing, it works really fast.

Just a suggestion, could the problem be with your host where you are uploading to? It might be an idea to check with your host.
Uninstalled the coffee cup and 5 minutes later went with "go ftp".
wow. what a difference -- so doubt it was the server.
Sorry, coffee cup-- tried everything including uninstalling and reinstalling free ftp.

Same speed issue here this last week. Tested server upload speed is 10x what I get with Coffee Cup Free FTP.
Unfortunately, I need to find an alternative.

If you are looking for something free, try looking at download.com.
That is a site you can trust to not load you up with malware.
Check out Filezilla. Many people like that program.

My main FTP client is CuteFTP (I like my clients to have HTML editors built in) but Direct FTP performs just as well speed-wise with the dozen or so servers I upload to. Direct FTP has some minor issues that means it isn't my primary client but all these other problems are not evident on my machine.
This is the magic of shareware; there are a million machines and combionations of servers, networks, hardware and software out there; you can't please everyone all the time. If something doesn't work, move on, but at least give the CoffeeCup people the chance to discover why it isn't working and perhaps prevent something like this happening to someone else. Submit a support ticket and be part of the process; they will respect you for it.
Dave.
