DFTP Skipping folders - Post ID 125844

Well, all joking aside, this isn't the folder I give a rat's about; the folder that is broken is the 'websites' folder which is a standard, run of the mill folder created in the My Documents folder. DFTP only started losing it and throwing up errors on each profile connect only two builds ago, so something was obviously done that broke it at that time.

I know the expression folder is weirdly presented but in my opinion it is just a normal folder with a non-normal icon, though it may have special privileges for permissions between users or something like that. DFTP cannot see the expression working folder but can find it if the path is set.

In details view in DFTP, grab the column resizing handles and go nuts; the ghost lines happen on this 7 desktop machine, my XP development desktop machine and my Vista laptop so I am very surprised to hear you can't replicate it. Someone in the office must be able to as it is highly unlikely it happens only on three machines in the whole world and I happen to own all of them.

Cheers

Note also that the Microsoft Expression working folder called 'My Web sites' is missing in DFTP as well.

Sorry Dave, this sentence made me believe that the EW My Web Sites was not missing in DFTP.

That should read missing instead of not missing.:)

Er, OK. I Think.

The Expression folder is missing from DFTP's 'explorer' window, but if I set the right path to it in a server profile, it opens up OK, so it may not be displayed properly but at least the software can read it, whereas my actual 'websites' folder is not seen and even with the path set, (which incidentally took two or three tries to set using the browse for local folder dialogue in the 'more options' area), it cannot find the folder on server connect.

Which brings me to another regression, though I am unsure when this one happened. I reported a while back the software gags terribly if the local path is not found on server connect. Even though we can click through the error dialogue, the hourglass cursor remains and the software is slow and unresponsive until restarted. It is almost as if the error breaks something and it cannot reset itself until the software is closed and reopened. This was fixed in an earlier build but has since returned and I have only just noticed it again due to the errors thrown up by the websites folder not being found by DFTP.

This is 100% replicable and I would be interested to hear if this happens on anyone else's machine, seeing as it exhibits identical behaviour on my three development computers.

That was a good tip Dave. When I added that path to the Local Folder, it worked. There must be something about that folder causing it to be ignored just in the local view. I updated the bug ticket with this additional information.

As to the other issue, I can't replicate that here at all. I never get an hourglass and the software works just as fast for me with a correct or incorrect path entered. Dave, if you could send me the log file, I can pass this along to the developers and they maybe able to see what is going on.

I have tried off and on all weekend to get these ghost lines to appear and I just cannot. I tried under XP, Vista and Windows 7. I am not really sure what could be causing them yet.

Well we figured out one thing. The My Web Sites is a Windows protected folder. To see this folder go to the View Menu > Show Hidden Files. Once that was turned on, the folder appeared for me.

If you have that enabled already, try turning it off and then back on.

I don't about yours but on my PC, under My Docs, the My Websites folder is not a hidden/protected folder.

You won't see it visually flagged. It is recorded in the file system as one.

The Microsoft Expression-created My Web Sites folder is visible regardless of whether hidden or system files are hidden or not, as can be seen here, where all system and hidden files should be hidden.

Besides, as I already mentioned, I couldn't care less whether this folder is there or not, it is my other websites folder that is causing DFTP to break, not this one.

Cheers
