Way ahead of you Scott, old buddy. I downloaded the 2015 version of DFTP which automatically uninstalls the older version. I did this so that I would have identical versions of DFTP on both computers.

That is not what I suggested you do, but having the most current version is always a good idea.

Some times when i am copying and pasting passwords I copy an empty space at the beginning or the end accidentally and do not notice it until trying to find out why the password did not work.

It sounds like the FTP database has gotten corrupted. What you will need to do is delete the internal database so that you can start fresh again. This should fix you up. Here is where you can locate the database:
Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings[username]\Application Data\SharedSettings.ccs
Windows 8/7 & Vista: C:\Users[username]AppData\Roaming\SharedSettings.ccs
Just delete that file and restart DFTP and add the profiles back again.

I have run into situations where copy/pasting the password simply didn't work at all. I had to type it in. However, one thing to consider is that even if the software is upgraded and uninstalls the previous versions, it doesn't mean that it deleted the previous version's data. In this case, the data would be the stored passwords.
If you haven't already, you should really delete the shared settings files. That will make sure that you truly have tried everything. Until you do that, you haven't done all that you can do.
