Was WYSIWYG on Windows XP desktop but...

I have been designing our website www.rockstar4x4.com on my desktop that runs windows XP. Everything showed accurately on published website on all browsers and computers just fine.

Now since transferring my files to my new Windows 8 laptop, actual website (on any browser) is spaced completely different than how I have it aligned in VSD.

If I overlap all of my boxes and make it look like a jumbled mess in VSD, then it will finally not look like it has huge gaps between everything on the actual published site.

This is crazy . . . lol How can I align everything properly in VSD (on my laptop) so that it will actually look right when published (without having to revert back to designing everything on my desktop)

Thanks!

just to clarify paragraph II above, my website spacing how the public sees it currently is fine so you won't be able to see what I'm talking about.

the biggest problem is VSD on my laptop - I can't do WYSIWYG but instead have to severely overlap everything in order to get it to publish right. Makes for a lot of trial and error in guessing spacing, and is a huge waste of time.

Also, I noticed this problem from the first day I loaded everything on my laptop, so it's never worked properly here (even though I could simultaneously view all of the exact files on my desktop version with perfect WYSIWYG.

Thanks!

Check your DPI settings and make sure they are set to normal. Also, make sure you have at least at 1208x1024 display size as well. That should fix you up.

I really want to understand what you just said . . . lol

Your support files say I can find the dpi settings by right clicking then selecting personalize. When I do that, it only gives me a bunch of "theme" options. Nothing about dpi settings. Off to the side it suggests "display" so I click there and can change the size of all items smaller-100%, medium- 125% (default) and larger 150%. Off to the left of that area I can click to "change display settings" and see that my display is "mobile pc display" (the only choice in the drop down menu). Below that is the recommended resolution setting of 1920 x 1080.

I see nothing that specifically says dpi settings or 1208 x 1024 display size.

Suggestions? Thank you!!!

Use the 100% option, and try the recommended display size. :)

100% did the trick . . . wow the font is super tiny on that setting (such as when looking at the drop down for the show pages) - I think I'd go cross-eyed if I had to read it much.

As for the resolution . . . FYI . . . on my 2013 Asus 15" laptop with Windows 8, their "recommended setting" of 1920 x 1080 is the only way to view a page in actual proportions. When I tried Scott's recommendation of 1208 x 1024 (or any other setting for that matter), everything becomes shorter and stretched wider.

Thanks! : )

Scott recommended AT LEAST 1208x1024. Your laptop native resolution meets that requirement.
