Hi Thanita,
Sorry if you didn't understand my explanation with the GIF size! But it is really the major "bug" found concerning transparency.
Let's try again:
When you create a GIF, you have to explicitely specify the size of the image. That may be in pixels, points, inches... or whatever a dimension! VSD dimension is "pixels", than you will have eventually to convert your current picture size in pixels before going on!
Now, let's say you have a 100 by 500 pixels GIF (about what I saw from your link above). You made it transparent (do not forget the 4 edges, outside the pink border!) and saved it into your project folder. OK.
Now, you start VSD, create a new page and give it the "tan victoriam background".
When you want to insert your GIF, you have to "open" a box where you intend to place it, do you? Just after, you are prompted for the file name... and finally, the picture is there, onto your VSD page...no?
If you look at the "Object" properties box of VSD, you will see the width and the height of THE BOX into which you inserted your GIF. NOT the GIF's size (100x500).
Now, it's where VSD fails: when your created box size is larger than the GIF's size, there is no issue. If you created a SMALLER box, let's say below ONE HALF of the GIF's size (typically here 50 x 250), then NO CHANCE: your GIF will NOT BE TRANSPARENT!
Try... and you will see.
There on my site, you can have a little pre-view:

OK! I didn't spent a lot of time on it... so it's only to show you that it does like written before!

I did it all, Gilles and still not transparent. I'm so close to giving up on it. I did have a few gifs that were transparent but it didn't always work all of the time. Not sure why. I know that they can't intesect with other images...etc...I know HOW to create a gif but why isn't it working? Ugh! Going to sleep on this one...again!
Thanks for your help none-the-less.

Hi Thanita,
Very weird that it still don't work! Specially when you have only a simple page (background+gif)...
Perhaps can you send me your test gif and the background pattern?
To do it, use the "Mail"'s button on the site above!

Gilles,
As I said before, sometimes it works other times not. I recreated the gif and viola! It works! *whimper* All this back and forth, thank you so much for all your help. What a pain this has been!
Thanks!

Hi FilmHistorian!
If you use VSD version 5.84 you may be a lucky person!
After my first trials with this release, the problem of lost of transparency depending on object size has been fixed.
I have to do more test to give a definitiv answer... but CC programmers are on the right way !

There are a lot of people having problems with GIFs and Coffecup's Visual Site Designer.. It will convert your GIF into a JPG (and rename it) causing the transparency to become non so transparent. How I get around the issue is to open the finished site (HTML file) with Notepad and then change the file name back to "example.gif" and then copy and paste the actual gif into the file folder.
For example, the GIF I inserted was the first picture so it renamed my "example.gif" to "IMG_0.jpg". The number will change depending on what order it came in... Just go through your file folder and look through your pics until you find out what the new name is. You will have to paste the original file into the folder (don't just rename it), AND change the file name in notepad.
<div class="Object0"><img src="files/example.gif" width=810 height=608 border=0></div>
I'm using, VSD v.5.9.4, but I'm sure it is the same problem for them all...
Hope this works for you all. If so, could you please copy this reply into any relative forum. Thanks.
