VSD - Duplicate Image Issue (SCOTT) -...
I am having a similar issue. It seems like some of my images are safe from being duplicated, while others are not. It appeared that the duplicated images were those that I made in VSD. So I deleted them and created my own buttons in PS. Unfortunately, now those are being duplicated wildly within my "files" folder. Still, many of the early images I brought in are being left alone. Then I wondered if it was because I used "effects" or "styles" on some of these images. I haven't gotten to the point of checking that yet.
I checked and none of the image duplicates are referenced in the code at all so I just deleted them. But then of course, new ones showed up. grr.
My plan, if CC hasn't addressed this or told me a fix before publication time, is just to go in and delete all that stuff before I upload. I need to do some html dinking in a few places anyway. I have limited server space and can't afford a gazillion little copies of buttons everywhere.
Still, as inexpensive visual s/w goes, it's worth the little hassle of cleaning up dupes. though I do hope CC will address this. Or explain what I'm doing to cause the problem.

That is correct. This is not a bug however, this is done by design. Each page is more or less a website in itself and none of the content on the page is shared with other pages. This means an image added to page one and then duplicated to page two will create a duplicate image.

well.. sort of. If I bring in my own graphic and do not use any styles or effects, no such duplication occurs. If all the images on several pages are accessed in the same folder, why do they have to be duplicated as files within that same folder? Besides, it's not a matter of each page accessing it's own image, it's a matter of images being duplicated each time I build the data. There is no reference to these duplicate images anywhere in the code. The code still only accesses the original image that was created when I applied a style or effect. That makes all those duplicates entirely extraneous. And each time I build means that by the time I've worked for a couple of hours, I've got 30 or 40 duplicates of the same image, none of which the code accesses. I have a hard time believing this is what y'all had in mind during design.
I have turned off all styles and effects and this is no longer happening. Just good clean directory with only the files I need. Except for the darn little bullets I made in VSD - they're so cute I'm unwilling to replace them and will just keep deleting the 15 extras that appear with each build.

Let me give a little more data. I don't think we are talking about the same thing.
I created a little round dot that I made in VSD and added styles and effects to for use as a bullet, sixteen times on a single page, it creates an image for each occurrence. Each image is then separately referenced in the code. That makes sense (not necessary, but is understandable) and that's fine. But, I have this dot on no other page I have created. So. There are 16 little images that were created solely for that page. No problem. A little excessive but tolerable.
Now. Every time I build that page in order to display it in my browser, VSD creates sixteen more little bullet images. Soon, I've got 5x16 images in my files folder of which only 16 are needed by the code. None of the duplicate images are used in the code. None of them show up on any other pages I have created for the website.
Meanwhile, graphics I brought in (or created in VSD) and did not apply styles or effects to, but did duplicate both on a single page and on several other pages, remain singular images all by their little lonesome. The way it should be. Yes, they are referenced in the style section of the code as multiples as they should be for placement purposes and so on, but additional files are not actually created in the file folder.
If I let the bullets keep doing what they're doing and wait until publication time to deal with them, given the rather AR manner in which I check display in my browser for sometimes the smallest changes, I will have accumulated hundreds, perhaps thousands, of these duplicate bullet images in my files folder.
If this isn't now crystal clear what I'm referring to, I will be happy to run several builds, provide you with a screen shot or three of the directory results, and with the particular page of code that uses these images so you can compare what is in the directory v. what is in the code and get a completely transparent view of what is happening.
OOOPS: One correction. Each time I build, the new images are placed in the code, the old images are now the superfluous images. So now, where bullet image number 73 was being referenced in the src attribute, 112 is being referenced. something like that. I didn't track the precise number but next time I run it it will be 137, then the next time, 153 ad infinitum.

update.
ARG!
Now that I've deleted dozens of the little buggers repeatedly. Suddenly it's not happening.
I will withhold further comment unless it happens again. I have absolutely no explanation for why all of the above took place then suddenly stopped.
So - I'd say, for the moment, just let me dink with things and if it happens again, I'll rant again. If not, then there are gremlins on my laptop and they were totally trying to muck with my head.

I was getting multiple images created on a page for example I would place lifestyle.jpg on the page and VSD would create IMG_xx.jpg and use that in the html code. I found myself deleting 20 and 30 images at a time. VSD wouldn't do it to all the images just some of them.
I then converted the .jpg images to .png and it didn't happen again. This may be of use to some of you having the problem, even if CC says it is not a bug.

It might be beneficial to not limit a post to just scott, since he is incredibly busy and there are many people who can help, otherwise you should send him an email.
