I'm just starting to put together a site to promote my business and a client asked me if it would have FTP capabilities.
Can somebody explain to me the benefits of FTP versus just having customers email files to me?
Is the CC FTP an app that can be used in conjunction with a VSD site.
Sorry if these are newbie questions but this is new territory to me. - Boyd

Hi Boyd,

I'm not understanding why your client needs FTP to your site?

VSD has its own internal FTP feature and its best to use that for uploading the VSD files as it intuitively knows which files need uploading.

You can use an external FTP program like DirectFTP or other but you need to know which files to upload.

So...in the case of VSD if clients need to upload files its better they send them to you to upload through VSD or it may get really messy.
I know you believe you understand what you think I said...but I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not exactly what I meant.

I really don't want anyone but me to be able to FTP files up to my server. Nasty little things can happen.

Some clients occasionally need to send me quite large files.
These aren't intended to be used on my website, they're usually just architectural drawings that I need to see for estimating purposes.
This customer suggested that having FTP capabilities might be a more efficient way for them to send these files to me. - Boyd

FTP is a faster protocol than http or email. You can use the CC Form Builder to build a form and allow file upload to a directory on your server. Form Builder and VSD play nicely together..

Paintbrush, that Yousendit app looks interesting with the Corel and Adobe plug-ins. - Boyd
