I gave up on the egg hunt and went nuts with this instead :lol: I can't come up with any way to type the c with caron in VSD that will show correctly in the browser. ALT+0133 looks fine in VSD, but previews as a question mark. Both ALT+159 and ALT+0131 (in a VSD text box) did give me the c with accute accent in the preview/browser. (Using WP International Helvetica)

Anybody else got any ideas?

Look here for a list of these codes: http://tlt.its.psu.edu/suggestions/inte … #htmlcodes

I tried it and it works! Not in a text box of course, but in a HTML box....

Have fun, John

I came across that site last night - good resource. I was trying to find some way to just type right into VSD without having to use html boxes every time he wants to mention the town name.

The problem with advanced text is that it becomes an image, so it's OK for a title or subheading (with alt text), but not good for content that should be searchable.

Wow, looks like you've been having fun!

I think I'm going to have to go with html boxes for now. Advanced text still will have input problems plus I don't want bit-maps for text.

Depending on the language Coffeecup used to program VSD (and others), it could be a while before they change to UTF-16....lots of api's to change, variable declarations, etc...

On this page it would probably just take a change in the header from:
<meta charset="utf-8">
to
<meta charset="utf-16">

Thanks again for the suggestions!

Although this update to Visual Site Designer has made vast improvements to the markup and how the site will display in different browsers and operating systems, there are a few things you should take a look at.

I have to agree with John that the text in VSD (latest version) that when VSD is saving the html files there is some kind of misinterpretation by VSD during this process. This happens only when using Windows 7 machines. The text always look like it does when your creating the website and then using Windows XP to view the webpage.

If you look at www.saukvalleypredators.com on a windows 7 operating system you will see that the text is broken up and not how it is intended to be seen when you are creating in VSD.

For more exact example look at www.saukvalleypredators.com/team.html under the graphic in the middle you will see "Click on Photo to see their bio" when you view on a Windows XP machine it's on one line like it was meant to be when creating the site. When you look at it on a Windows 7 machine there is a break before the word "Bio" and it appears on a separate line.

But if you view it on a computer using Windows XP the site looks great. Exactly how it looks in the VSD when creating the page.

The only fix that i have found is that taking that page into a different program (i use Dreamweaver) then you are able to fix the text issue.

Using the advanced tab does not work in this situation, trust me I have tried over and over. When creating your site, use an HTML editor like Coffeecup has to correct the issue for viewers using Windows 7. This helps, but it must be a bug in the program that is conflicting the html viewing in WIN 7, using the latest browsers such as FF and IE.

I think your text looks great on my Win 7 machine. I don't think you'll have to many users surfing with a XP machine and a Win 7 machine at the same time comparing the difference in views.:)
I can't hear what I'm looking at.
It's easy to overlook something you're not looking for.

Send me a screen shot or if you can post it here. I have looked on several machines all running Windows 7, i have also looked at several machines using Windows XP and it is always the same in each instance. XP looks good and 7 doesn't.

I agree that not many people will be comparing, it's just that the folks that the site is intended for have Windows 7 machines and request that text looks a certain way and the only way to accomplish the text without the random breaks is to edit it outside of VSD. Using the advanced text box to try to fix does not work. Using the text in separate text boxes as indicated in a tip does not work even when it's not layering an image or does not have any returns entered into the text. Extending the text box far beyond the text created does not work. It's a bug during html creation, and there is no fix to it currently and i hope is included in the next update. The really only way to accomplish the text to look as intended is to use the html tool in VSD and that really defeats the option to place text at this point. If I am wrong please instruct me how to get by this easily while creating a site.:)

Did you try making the text box a wider then necessary to see if the text would display the way you want?
