I have been using visual site designer for a while , the problem is that I have to re-download the program and install it every time I use it, I close it out and it didn't load in my program files so I can click on a short cut to open it again, instead I have to go to the website and re-down load from my purchased products.
can anyone tell me what the problem is, all of my other coffee cup software is visible so I can click the icons to launch the programs, it is only visual site editor that is causing the problem.

Thank You
TOM

Give this a try Tom,:)
Configure the shortcut to always run as administrator. Here's how:

1. Right-click the shortcut icon, and click Properties.
2. Click the Compatibility tab.
3. Here, put a check mark by Run This Program as an Administrator.
4. Next, put a check mark next to Run This Program in Compatibility Mode For: and ensure Windows XP Pro Service Pack 2 is selected.
5. Click OK.
I can't hear what I'm looking at.
It's easy to overlook something you're not looking for.

Hi Eric: Thank you for getting back to me,for some reason the program does not give me a short cut after launching, I exit the program and there are no remnants left behind, I have looked for it in my program files and tried searching it out and its not there, really weird, it stores my information for uploading and i am able to save my projects but once I exit that is it, again all my other software is functioning normal.

Tom,

I initially had a problem similar to yours. It was resolved by running it as Administrator as per Eric's suggestion.

Uninstall and reinstall the program again. Now, before you launch the program the first time, right-click on the shortcut icon and follow Eric's steps.
If there is no shortcut icon on the desktop, create one as follows: Click on the start button at lower left of the desktop, then on 'All Programs' and navigate to the Visual Site Designer. Right-click on VSD and choose Send To > Desktop (create shortcut). Then right-click on the new shortcut icon on the desktop and choose 'Run as admin.'
Hope this works out for you. Let us know if you're still having problems! ;)

Install it as Administrator also to make sure it's getting installed correctly.

Right click the file for the installation and choose "Run as Administrator" on that menu that pops up. That will install it with Admin privs as well so it's getting installed correctly. That "should" cure the no shortcut issue you have.

If that doesn't work, turn off your security software temporarily and install it and turn your security software on when you're done. That doesn't happen too often that someone needs to go through all that, but every so often someone's security stuff won't let it through so try that too.

Let us know if any of our suggestions have helped or not and good luck!

Trouble is I believe the compiler Microsoft uses to create Windows differs from the compilers available to create programs like VCD etc. Plus due to hackers and virus creators Microsoft has to build safeguards into the operating system. Since XP the operating systems seem to have gone overboard with administrator privileged systems and will only get worse. I tried VB for a while and a executable was accepted straight away but with a different compiler no such luck.

I agree. I also Agree with at least trying to run as administrator and also run for compatibility to whatever operating system you are on. I know sometimes easiet solution isn't always the one that works but theres a huge checklist to go through for trouble shooting unfortunately :(
