hi,

I noticed that my website appears to work fine in most browsers, both mobile (built in browsers) and desktop versions. However my website text is not rendering properly when using a google chrome mobile browser on an android phone and tablet. See attached. I found your article which seems to relate
http://www.coffeecup.com/help/articles/ … -im-using/

The article recommends using CSS to deal with this but I am absolutely clueless as to how to incorporate a CSS with the VSD. Can CSS even be incorporated with VSD? Does it defeat the purpose? Would i have to use the HTML editor to build sites from scratch to use CSS. I downloaded the trial version of the Style Sheet maker, but it added to my confusion.(obsiously i dont know much about HTML and CSS) Do you have any instructions to point me in the right direction, or a link to a tutorial or article that might give instructions on how to build a style sheet and incorporate? Another option i would consider is using custom HTML boxes within VSD and using a different code to make the text display properly. I have tried a few but the problem remains.

thanks
Brian

Hi Brian,

Could you post a url for your site?

When it comes to phones or tablets, you have to realise that VSD is not capable (yet!) of producing responsive sites, so the experience on a phone will always end up with scroll bars etc. However, the layout issue on your attached image is something you should be able to correct in VSD.

VSD does use CSS, just not as a stand alone file like in markup coded by hand in HTML editor etc. In VSD the CSS is in the header of each page and it is not easily user editable. But, you can control layout in VSD by manipulating the objects and playing with the placement as you experiment with different browsers/platforms.

If you can post a url then we can take a look and see how best to advise you on fixing the overlay issue.

the problem also occurs on all other sites that i have designed. The strange thing is that they look great on ipads, iphones, and the browser that came with the android phones and tablets. But the text is way too big when viewing with the mobile version of google chrome.

Here are some other sites I designed that look great everywhere, except for google chrome mobile

Hi Brian,

Please see the attachments here. I have visited your site on my Android phone (Sony Xperia S) and it is formatted perfectly in landscape and portrait.

Maybe Google Chrome for Android has a revision that you need to update to, or maybe your handset needs a revision. Go to Settings, About Phone and click on top item "Software Update" to check.

Wow! Brian, you are onto something here...

I hate Google Chrome and have never had it on my PC or phone. But, out of interest I have downloaded it from the Play store and revisited your site and the other two examples you provided. It's shambolic, the layout and rules are all messed up.

So, I went to my own url and it too is nonsense in Google Chrome "Mobile" so I can only conclude that I was right all along to avoid this browser. Although I avoid it for privacy reasons, it seems it's got major rendering issues too!!

Well that makes me feel a little better. Thanks again, I really appreciate your help with this. Perhaps I will try to contact Google with the issue. If you end up finding anything else out please share! I will do the same. Thanks again!

So i clicked into the "known issues" section in the Chrome help menus and the first item reads

"Font & Language Issues
Font size is inconsistent on some sites, such as reddit and T Mobile
We are working on improving the display of non-mobile sites on phones, especially ones that use a large range of styles and fonts"

So it looks like they realize that its their fault and are working on it. Hopefully they fix it soon. Thanks again!

If it's a font issue, um, maybe using a different font will work. Might render different. I know there is a short list of web safe fonts. I haven't looked at your site, but are you using a 'web safe font'?

May not be an option for you to change, but worth thinking about

Thanks for the response. Yes I am careful to only use fonts which are considered web safe. I learned that one the hard way, lol
