Tables are fine as long as you use it the way it was intended to be used.:) I agree with Prism, huge time saver.
I can't hear what I'm looking at.

Well see it's not that it won't "work" nor that it "can't be done", but as I said it's not the current way to do positioning in a website. What it saves time for is editing. I agree that setting up tables is much quicker for some things, but when you need to go back to edit the styles you have to go into the html and edit all the separate little styles you've needed to put all over (when it's fully styled that is, especially if using it for site element positioning) one by one, area by area etc. What CSS does is put those things into one area of a CSS file that governs many parts of a site page rather than piecework. This saves a ton of update time. Not to mention that eventually some of those tags will no longer work.

Remember the original question was how to put tables in a VSD page.

1, Code them in Notepad or the editor and copy it in and keep adjusting the css till it fits. Then add content and adjust the attributes to requirement.

2. Or as I showed insert a table with all the formatting you need done in minutes complete with content totally adjustable for position font, colour whatever. Change the content in the saved RTF file convert and re paste it in position and bingo it is updated. A word processor is used to format the table and contents with all the ability available not trial and error coding.

Yup, it's all good. Just because it might not be a standard practice doesn't mean it shouldn't be done. If we all followed standard practices the internet would be a pretty dull place. If it renders properly in browsers then I would take the easiest route to achieve the best results.
