I am sorry, Sassy, can you repeat that please?

Only kidding.

The lightening bolt thingy and having a central file location seems to fix my problems, too. Goes back to my head butting thing. I did it their way and things are starting to get easier. Thank you, thank you.

Now, if the printable documentation could only keep up....

LOL! Told ya I can be long-winded! ;) Yeah, that magical little lightning bolt thingy (that I ignored until I realized it was as magical as it appears) did do the trick for me, too...(along with moving my scattered files into a central location/folder) heh, heh!! I was too used to doing things the 'hard way'! :)

I take back all those nice things I said. This time I got a box titled

"Error while uploading"

The nice helpful message said:

"An error occurred while uploading"

Now what?

Surely the programme gets a variety of error codes from the host. Why can't they be more specific?

When I've gotten that error, it's usually happened when it was taking too long to upload to my host server (like it timed out). While it can be frustrating, I usually just roll my eyes, expel a heavy sigh (does seem to help) and try to upload again. Generally speaking, though, when I get that message it sometimes also occurs when I'm doing way too many things at once (and I'll notice that VSD along with any number of programs I have open whilst multi-tasking) is bogging down my computer memory, which also causes an error while uploading. And since I'm too stubborn to drop all other tasks, I simply save my VSD file, close VSD, reopen it and the site and send to upload - 99% of the time I don't run into that upload error again after I do that. :) It does seem to 'fix' that issue, because when I'm working on any one of my sites, I'll notice that the more I do, the more memory is being taken, and it doesn't 'resolve' itself until I close VSD and re-open it (then it releases its hostage hold on my computer memory). So now as a common practice, if I'm making multiple changes/additions to any of my sites, I make sure I save/close/reopen before I upload...haven't had the upload error since (except when my host server is having any issues, which is not very often, luckily!) Hope that helps!

Hi Boyd,
I just took a look at your site and saw that you are rebuilding it. Are you still using VSD?
Is it working OK for you now?

Hey Sharon, sorry for the delay in replying, been working my tail off trying to get the boat back in the water!
Yes, I'm still using VSD but Xsite Pro 2 was released just today...hmmm.
The workaround I'm using with VSD is to take each and every one of the photos on my site (and there's a lot) and resample it at a maximum resolution of 120 dpi and a height of 3 to 4 inches.
I then store those files in a dedicated folder for website use only.
I'm using Corel Photopaint for this and saving the images as .gif's.
I then delete the pics that were on my site and replace them with the new resampled images.
It's been a painfully slow process but it is working!
What I don't understand is why I could use virtually any size or resolution photo in previous version of VSD and it was never an issue.
I'm just about to assemble another site, this one will be a gallery of our home which we hope to rent out for the 2010 Olympics.
I'm weighing my options on which software I'll use to put it together as I would like to use reasonably higher resolution pics.
Hope you've found a solution that works for you! - Boyd

Obviously there are problems here and I am no real expert, however, I am persistent and hate to give up. My "out of memory" or "low on memory" problems are directly related to object links. Here is an example.

http://www.macksclassics.com/cars2.html

The '< Previous' link object that you see above the top photo goes to the previous page (duh!). I want the same link at the bottom of the page so I copy it and paste it at the bottom thinking this should be a no brainer. I figured this would work. However, when I added the next photo and attempted to save I got the notorious "low on memory" error. If I remove the bottom link object, no worries mate. Put it back, bingo, error. So I added the last photo on the page without my
'< Previous' link object thinking that would surely bomb, and it saves no problemo. Paste the link and bam error. Recreate the link = error!

Here's the question. Why is a simple link like this 'using' (?????) so much memory? I can leave the link off and I am uploading without problem. There must be a clue here for all you hotshot web people out there. I would sure like a working solution.

I retract the statement that I can upload now. It is totally locked up!

Is anyone else getting the Out Of Memory message? I get this when I go to save and when I go to upload. After I get the message after attempting to upload the program freezes.
I have saved all the photos in a central folder. I have resized and optimized all photos for fast web upload. I have saved all photos with no spaces or characters other than letters.
Thanks
Alice

(Alice, did you try a prior suggestion to quit the program and restart it every now and then? It appears that the memory handling is not the best and memory gets eaten up.)

I bought the Designer Package. So far I have installed VSD, Firestarter, and JukeBox. Each program works fine on its own. Performs as advertised, etc. etc. However, it is a royal pain to integrate these things, especially after one has altered an effect and is trying to add the change to the web site. For example. I set up a juke box with about forty songs in it and uploaded it OK. Then I made a second one with seven songs. Even though I deleted all reference to the first one, VSD is still looking for the 40 mp3 files when I try to upload to the server. Keeps saying xxxxx.mp3 not found.
Same thing with the Firestarter flash effects.

It's driving me nuts.......................

Hi Bass,
Have you tried looking in the add files wizrard to see if they show up there, maybe thats why it's still referencing them, but use the remove files, it's all under the settings tab.
