Lots of people keep commenting about this, so i thought i would open a specific thread

My 45 page website in VSD uploading with the inbuilt FTP 5gb broadband connection

yesterday did an edit to one line of text on a page half way down my pages list, hit publish and it was done and finished in about twenty seconds

Today, more to point 4 oclock in morning when internet over here is quiet, added a block of text to second page down the list, hit publish, and its taken over half an hour so far, and still going

I checked after 4 or five minutes and the edit (new block of text) was live on the website, but as usual a few pages of jumbled up mess that Ctrl F5 will clear up when its finished uploading.

This happens regularly so my money is on something in the software is affected by outside influences :( No i have not been drinking :)

I can't hear what I'm looking at.

Viv-
This happens to me sometimes too. I have found that clearing the file list helps. After so many updates I guess some images, icons, etc. that are no longer used remain in the files. Deleting them seems to speed up my uploads, but then sometimes pictures, icons, etc. get lost too. :/

Ok so hosting is in USA, but still cant account for 60 seconds one time and 30 or 40 minutes next time.

And as i said Eric the edit is usually live in a few minutes, but the program rattles on for 35 or more minutes afterwards.

Start drinking, the time will go faster....................

It's 5 o'clock somewhere

I have had this issue as well from time to time and it has come down to IP traffic, most of the time download just seems to hang, the server has updated and all is well but the update just never seems to come.

That's answered it, thanks Bob, makes sense now

Eric if i use direct ftp to edit a page, does it in seconds

But I like to use the inbuilt FTP because its designed that way ;) and i keep advising new to CC users to do it this way for ease

I know VSD can take longer but I use it that way also. I do all my edits then just walk away or do something else. :)

Forms are the slow ones to update. I compress send and extract online. I am still investigating the https requirements.
