My old computer has completely died. Is there a way I can download my website files onto my new computer?

When my desctop died, my friend took the hard drive out, and plugged it into some sort of docking station, connected to my new laptop by a usb cable

Recovered almost everything off it.

Those kits/cables aren't expensive – it's worth a try. Even if the drive is too fried to recover anything, it's less than taking it somewhere to bee diagnosed. (Been through all of this before :().

My old computer won't turn on. I have an external hard drive for my new computer. I need to write to coffee cup customer service because I think they can let me upload my files from the internet somehow. Thanks for your ideas!

You can buy Sata external hard drives that have an adapter already plug into it for usb. Just unplug the adapter and plug it into your Sata hard drive from you pc and your good to go.:)

Sue - Do you mean "No Power"? or "Won't Boot"? as there is a difference... If "No Power" there is a real good chance that something like what Viv linked to would be useful to you. I've used similar on several occasions to transfer files from "DEAD" 'puters to the replacements for clients. Even if the old computer "Won't Boot" there is still a slight possibility that it could work here as well...

As far as getting your files from the internet. You can go here: https://www.coffeecup.com/help/myproducts/ to get your CC programs (up to date and everything :D). If you use VSD, you "should" have the .vnu file on your server with your site. Read this article: http://www.coffeecup.com/help/articles/how-can-i-recover-my-vnu-file-if-something-goes-terribly-wrong/ it should clear things up a bit for you.

It is amazing how many computers are dumped with their drives. I have a few that I re format and fill with my pictures. I picked up a docking station on Ebay. Most of the drives are around 20/40GB.

Actually most computers have nothing wrong with them. Bad contacts account for 20% of the failures especially for those who cuff them to try hurry them up. We had a manager at work went through 3 in a year, each time I got a better PC. On board Batteries account for another 20% failure to boot. They sometimes loose the boot info, different computers react differently when this happens. My Wife's computer develops strange habits I think due to the sites she visits that puts all sorts of bars and widgets on her browser and desktop.

I agree with Viv in another thread a bit of impact maintenance goes a long way to give one a sense of getting ones own back
