okay - been a while since I have asked a question.

working on a project .. small but important.. like all projects can be..

using VSD 7.0 Build 24 -- how can you lock the look and feel of a page with page background, advanced text to allow effects (simple shadows), and then avoid blockiness of the preserved page elements when a monitor screen resolution is at 1900 x 1200, versus 1366 versus 800, 1024 x768 ..

i have obviously missed something in the VSD tutorials because I hate to ask something so simple that should be obvious.

customer page in question -- www.SwankyShampane.com -- been on this project a few days and need a simple shingle to promote their show -- but we want a clean look at all resolutions, and screens sizes..

Sorry to disappoint you, but you can't do this with VSD. VSD can only do so-called fixed-width designs. What you want to have is a fluid, liquid or responsive design, i.e. a design that adopts automatically to the screen it is displayed upon. You can do this with the HTML editor only.

Also if you keep your width to a decent size such as around 1000 px or 960px you shouldn't have much trouble with it fitting most screen sizes for computers. Obviously that won't apply to mobile devices for the most part, but most VSD sites do pan nicely in them also. Keep your width at a basic size as mentioned and you should be fine. If you make it too wide (which it is right now) then people will definitely have to scroll horizontally if in smaller screens.

The rule of thumb is center it and keep it uniform width throughout the page and throughout all pages. The sizes above should work fine on small and large, and when they are really large, well when centered they are fine. Anyone with a larger than 24" monitor which is what I have will hopefully have enough common sense to realize that websites are going to look smaller than they would on smaller monitors lol. I am about to redo my site with mobiles in mind. In my usual way I overwrote my with a test site I was working on so that gives me an excuse. I am going to make 2 or three versions without compromise. I have tried a responsive approach and what looks good in a large monitors seems to crush up in a mobile so I will dedicate one set of pages to mobile screen sizes one set for small laptops/smart pads and one for the large monitors. I will use a redirection based on detected screen size, or choice. I only have 10 pages so that is fairly simple to do keeping the same looks.
