How do you add meta tags in your website so that search engines can find your site? I used VSD to make a website and now need to add meta tags. How?

Thanks in advance,

Open each page in notepad and add the following between the <head> and </head> tags.

These are some I use. Edit "Your Site Data".

<meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1">
<meta http-equiv="cache-control" content="cache">
<meta name="MSSmartTagsPreventParsing" content="TRUE">
<meta name="title" content="Your Site">
<meta name="subject" content="Your Site">
<meta name="category" content="Your Site">
<meta name="description" content="Your Site">
<meta name="classification" content="Your Site">
<meta name="keywords" content="Your, Web, Site, Key, Words">
<meta name="key phrase" content="Your Site Key Words, More Here">
<meta name="author" content="Your Name">
<meta name="distribution" content="global">
<meta name="resource-type" content="document">
<meta name="robots" content="index,follow">
<meta name="rating" content="general">

How can you strip all the meta tags from existing pages? Since the "title tags" and "description tags" are all different, you can't do a "find and replace" all. Is there a way in the program to strip all the "meta" tags from a group of files?

You can't strip all the metatags off in VSD. The programme inserts by default these two:

<meta name="generator" content="CoffeeCup Visual Site Designer, Version 6.0 Build 6 for Windows">

<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html;charset=ISO-8859-1">

They cannot be removed unless you continue editing your site in a different programme.

In VSD you can insert the tags for description and keywords (Edit - Edit Keywords and description). If you need to place other kinds of metatags, you can do that too (Edit - Edit header). You can choose if you want it applied to just one page or to all pages.
