After you make the link to the pdf file and save it, just click the PREVIEW button to see the link work in your default browser. You must use the preview feature to test your links.

I'm having similar problems. I have a page full of links to sample pdf files that people can open to see my work. I originally built my site with the older version of VSD, but upgraded to VSD 6 recently. All seemed to be going well, but for some reason today, all the links to my pdf files are not working. I'm getting an error message that says:

Directory has no index file. Browsing this site or directory without an index file is prohibited.

If you are the site's webmaster, you can remedy this problem by creating a default HTML page with one of the following names:

index.html
index.htm
default.htm
Default.htm
home.html
Home.chtml
NOTE: Filenames are case sensitive, i.e., Home.html is not the same as home.html

I've speficially clicked on LINK A DOCUMENT. These are links that were working previously. I have unlinked them, and then relinked them to the document again, and still it doesn't work. HELP!

Is this a website in a website or just a subdirectory?
It seems or looks like some coding has been manipulated/edited which shouldn't be done in VSD, or maybe just from the upgrade. Either way the pdf files in the coding view do not show at all. It does however show the location of where they should be ( files/Download )
may I ask how you uploaded the website?
I think your re-linking didn't take so give it anothr try won't you? PLease test your links in the preview mode as suggested above ( thanks Richard) if they work great if not how about a resyncing of your website.
Please let us know. We will be glad to help if we can. Or you may wish to put in a support ticket.

I'm not sure what that means -- a website in a website or just a subdirectory. It is a page on my website.I haven't manipulated any code, as I don't know how. I made the whole thing in VSD a few years ago, then upgraded to VSD a few months ago. I upload the website using the Publish button in VSD. I've tried to preview the link first, but it's not working -- it comes up with a blank page. I'm going to try ftp-ing into the directory and deleting all the pdf files, unlinking everything and deleting the link "address" in the Link screen, publishing, then relinking one a testing it, and see if I can get it to work. If I can get one to work, the rest should as well, but as of right now, they aren't working. The only links that are working are the ones to other pages in my website, and ones to other websites on the net.

Very frustrating.

Hi Jamie,
I was just making a statement (no offense)
a website in a website was meant by having one website and in that website for example someone made another website as a subdirectory and linked first site to second making it a site in a site.
If I were you I would relink all pdf's then go to settings and try to resync the website it's possible it might clear it up. When making your links I'm sure your linking to the documents on your hard drive correct? and then saving as it will then place copies in the download folder for you. ( just checking) :)

yes very frustrating indeed Jamie

I used to experience this every once in a while so I stopped using the "Link to a Document..." button.

Now I upload the pdf to my site first and simply put the full URL link in. example: www.yoursite.com/Download/mystuff.pdf

A little more work, but I've never had a problem since.

Jamie, you said you had made your site with an older version of VSD. In the 'old days' VSD made four different 'index' files: index.html, index.htm, default.html and default.htm. One of the default ones was the actual 'default'. This has been changed in the recent versions, and now the index.html is the default one.

If you have your site saved locally, you may try navigating to your site using an independent FTP client, like CC Direct FTP and delete the redundant default and index pages, and then reupload the site that has been edited in the latest version of VSD.

You may have to redo the links if they are as they were from the old version, because they might be referring to the old 'default' page.
