Hi. I hope someone can help me.

I have actually 2 questions.

1) When I insert an image in vsd I see it clear and sharp. After uploading, the image becomes blury when I open it with IE. It happens a lot with several images and I dont even change the size in vsd.
2) My website when I open it at home it shows center with borders on the side as per the page size I set in vsd. When I open it from work it scales the site to fit the entire monitor. I use IE both at home and at work. What happens is that of course the images look pixeled since I have a large monitor at work. Any ideas on how to prevent this?

My website is: www.queencitytheatre.com

I appreciate your help!

In regards to your first question, I don't have a real answer for you, but I was also having this problem. I guess VSD re-compresses or re-saves jpg's every time your website is either previewed or saved (I haven't successfully published my site yet). I noticed that the image quality continued to deteriorate even within VSD as I kept working on my site, saving frequently. One solution I came up with is go to whatever folder(s) that your original images are saved in, select all the one's that are used in your site, and copy all of them. Then go to the folder for your website that VSD created, and look for the folder called "files." Paste all the images that you copied into that folder. You will get a warning that there are already files with the same names in that folder, just choose to "Copy and Replace" all the files. This will help "freshen up" all your images when they start to look really bad. But for me that still wasn't good enough, so I chose to convert all my original images to gif's and replaced all my jpg's within VSD. It was kind of a pain doing so, but it was worth it.

Images are a digital file. They do not deteriate. You could be converting low resolution images into gifs.

Also jpg images can be saved as high, medium and low res and a few settings in between Try the images in another format PNG for instance and increase the resolution.

As a general thing images you have are almost never the size you want them, generally too big

I tend to design my websites by dragging images to required size using the tool within VSD and once correct size then right click on it and select scale object to fit picture this will give you optimum size., and will work ok in preview for checking.

When you have finished designing, go back to each image, check the image size, and then go to your folder with all your stored original images in (created for this project) select the original image and then use either photoshop if you have it or similar (CC webimage studio is good for this if not) and edit to the same size, and then SAVE FOR WEB this will give you best image quality for the size.

Now replace the image on the page with this new image

Once finished re save the whole project under a new name (ie) my website final edit

Another useful tip, if you want a frame around your pictures, increase size of the dragged to size image by about 4 pixls each way, change it to a grey or suitable colour with fill tool and paste the save for web image on top.

"If a JPEG image is opened, edited, and saved again it results in additional image degradation. It is very important to minimize the number of editing sessions between the initial and final version of a JPEG image."

Interesting, I was unaware of this, yet my own amateur technique is achieving exactly what is recommended, only opening an editing the image USED once.

To combat that issue, what I do is trial and error on an image until I find the right size/effects/etc. and each time I try one I go back to the original (hit the undo button basically) so that when I finally DO find the right changes I can then apply them to the original image. This means you aren't hitting resize a kazillion times or adding and changing colors over and over and degrading the image.

Same thing for things like Sharp and Blur. Each time you apply it it applies it to the current image so if you have applied Sharp to an image, then apply Sharp again, it's applying the 2nd Sharp to the already sharpened image. I do this trial and error for each effect I'm adding be it sizing, color, clarity, etc.

Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
