Grouping Images - Post ID 122115

Hi Everyone,

I'm curious about the number of graphics that have showed up in my folders for the church website that I'm working on. In hindsight I probably would have done things differently but now that I have made it this far, I hate to make changes that would have to be made to so many pages. I wanted the basic look of all the pages to be similar and for the most part, just the content to change from page to page. I created the first page and then duplicated that page for the base of the other pages.

So, now that I've rambled on, my question has to do with the square box sections on the right and left side of most of the pages. For the most part, each one consists of 4 items. The dark blue bar, the light blue box and the text in each of those sections. Would it help the website to load quicker or would there be any other advantages to grouping those items together as one piece? It just seems odd to have so many duplicated graphics in the "files" folder that just have different names.

Hi Jeff,
I'm going to give a shot, so please bare with me, If I'm not correct hope someone will chime in, as I understand this, on your homepage you have 4 text boxes, well on the other pages you have 3 text boxes, so VSD will name each differently for each page so you'll have that many more copies of the same text box, make sense? VSD does the same for images if you have the same image on all the pages, it won't just use the original for the first page, it will make copies and name them IMG_0 in sequence.

Your website seems to load quick for me. is there a problem that your seeing?

Hi Bruzer,

It makes sense the way you explained it. The site does load pretty quick, I guess I was just looking to clean up the clutter and get the fastest load possible. I just assumed that all of the pages would look back to the original image instead of making the copies. The files are fairly small so I don't guess it's a big deal. Would there be an advantage to grouping multiple graphics that make up one image on the screen? I guess it would help if I had to move them around on the page but other than that, I wasn't sure if I would gain anything.

Thanks for the clarification on the images. :)

Figured that this was just a typo, then I noticed your avatar. Hmmmmm..... Now, I'm not so sure...

With respect to the original post, the resource usage you're describing is one of the 'downsides' of using a drag & drop tool for building a site. As Bruzer pointed out, it doesn't seem to affect the load time of your site, so it's not a big deal.

If you use a full-blown HTML editor and take command of the folders in which you store your image files, it's very easy to use the same image in multiple locations or on multiple pages without having to make duplicates. The simplicity of building sites with a WYSIWYG tool does have its compromises.
