I got an email from my web host today which announces:

Customers who use FTP to upload files to their web sites will be required to connect using SSL/TLS from June 8, 2010. This is an important security measure to prevent passwords being compromised by eavesdroppers. Most modern FTP clients should support this kind of connection, and it should just be a case of selecting the appropriate option in the software.

In the case of Directftp this is no problem, but there does not seem to be any settings for SSH/TSL in the ftp settings for VSD (and I suspect scc, etc).

Can VSD be made to use secure ftp?

Unfortunately that is correct. VSD does not support sFTP. What you will have to do starting June 8th then is upload your files manually using Direct FTP.

Honestly, I have never personally had a hosting account where they mandate that I only use sFTP. Something you may want to think about if you are on the fence about switching providers.

Great T-Shirt BTW :)

OK thanks Scott.

Would be a nice future consideration for the software that if a user is a registered user of Directftp then it integrates automatically with that :-)
