I am having trouble uploading to my AngelFire ISP. When i run the test i get this message:
Testing Server and Logon OK
Testing Folder Creation: ERROR

Error Permission Denied: Name /vsd.test is illegal.

When i tried to create this same name using my FTP client i get the same message.

The log indicates i signed on OK but then indicates command 'FEAT' is illegal. i have attached a picture to this email to show the log.

Then i tried to upload anyway to Angelfire and it created the directories but it did not load any files and i got an error message 'An error occured while upload' and when this happend the status box showed 'index'.... The indx.html file on angelfire shows 0 size and the "Files" folder only has a sub-directory called 'Download'. There is also a directory called "Backups"

One more thing, when i looked at the knowledge base on Angelfire it says

"Does Angelfire support PHP and MySQL?
Answer No.
None of the available Angelfire hosting plans support either PHP or MySQL at the present time.
The only scripting that is supported by Angelfire hosting is HTML, Perl, and CGI.
ASP, .NET, PHP, MySQL, and Coldfusion are not supported.


Does the above mean i am dead in the water for using VSD? PLEASE SAY NO..........

I believe it does, since CC scripting output is in php. It boggles my mind that angelfire does not support those language formats. Sounds like you may need to change hosts.

Is that why i cant upload anything to Angelfire or is that another unrelated and seprate problem?

Well, if you can't actually upload anything then that would be a FTP issue. If you can upload, but your server does not understand what you are uploading and you get an error message, then it is your server. bottom line though, if you server does not accept the languages you just mentioned, then I don't see how CC or any other major software company will work with your server. If your not locked down for to long in a contract, I would seriously suggest transferring your work to another host. I can provide some suggestions when the time comes if you need them.

Hi Eric, thanks again for your comments. Yes i would like some ideas on a new provider. I did some checking around and of course every review is slanted towards one provider or another. i checked into GoDaddy, JustHost and Host Monster... All got great reviews on some sites and bad on others. Here are my needs.

space - less than 1 GB, minimal bandwidth, around 100-200 vistors a day-worldwide, no shopping carts or commercial business needs, no backup. GREAT techsupport and of course able to use/upload VSD files. Below is my current site. It has around 500 web pages with over 20,000 images.

Of course, I would be happy to host you on my site, but if you would like to go with a larger company than an individual, there is no better hosting company (in my opinion) than inmotionhosting.com.

It is unbelievable that any host doesn't do php and mysql..
my hosting has all the stuff listed that angel* doesn't do. and I offer php.ini config too,, but no ssh root access since it's shared.

I think most hosting outfits do a good job.
As far as one host being better than another is debatable. They all have their down times, they all have their good points and bad. It just depends on who you ask and when you ask them.

The most important thing to consider is if you need a VPS or if shared hosting will work.
The second thing to consider is, do you need help with the server and your site. If so, then someone like Eric or myself would be a better choice since we provide help for our clients.. I didn't ask Eric about that, but I am sure he does.

Dave and Eric, thanks for all your assistance and guidance. One thing i found very impressive with coffecup is the user forum and the support the community provides. Without a doubt the support here is the best here i have seen in over 30 years of IT, including some of the 'big guys'.

I checked around and selected one of the providers i mentioned above. From a price perspective and for what i needed, it made sense to go with an inexpensive shared hosting solution. I did not need anywhere near a dedicated or VPS solution.

Thanks again and time to buy a registered version of VSD!!!
