I have an index page with 2 text boxes where I used the Ariel font size 10. When I review the page in preview mode the size ot the text is reduced by approximately 50%. Also, the text editor will not allow a double space after a period. I have searched the help files on my computer and your web site but did not find any mention of this problem.

Another problem I just experienced is when I clicked on "about" to get the build number the page froze. I can't close the Visual Site Design image or my page or the eb site itself. I half to reboot the system to continue working.

One more question, I have changed the page properties so the pages covers the entire screen in preview mode. Is this an acceptable practice? If so why isn't this the default setting as it is in other web site programs I have used?

Hopefully you have a solution for these issues.

Just a thought, make sure you run the program as 'Administrator'. Right click the icon and select properties, then select compatability, and check the box for Administrator. May help.

The reason this isn't done is because everyone has different size computer screens. Some are 'widescreen' while others are still 'fullscreen' and now you have 'mobile'. Hence to movement towards adaptive web sites.

I'd have to look into the text problem if someone else doesn't jump in here first ...

Hi Robert,
Check your DPI settings (Right-click on desktop > Personalize > Display), make sure it's set to 100%.

No double spaces; as you've noticed, VSD only allows one space. I don't know if that's to keep the code clean (so it won't be full of

....)? But that's how it works. :(

Don't know about the page freezing... Maybe try opening VSD by right-clicking and choosing 'run as administrator'. Also, if it's been awhile since you downloaded it, go to your account (purchases) page and see if there's an updated version to download. Might be worth a fresh download anyway, just in case something went wonky the first time around.

Not sure about your last question... Do you mean you set the actual page size so it fills your browser when you preview it? If so, I wouldn't do it. Not everyone has the same screen size, and some viewers have more than one window, site, etc. open at a time in their browser, so they won't see the entire page even on a wide screen. Best to stick with standard sizes, and don't forget some people are using small screens (pads, phones...). An unusually wide site will give them a really long horizontal scroll to deal with.

Let us know how it goes :)

Thank you Gunsmoke for our response to my request for information. I like your graphic, it's about the way I would look if I grew a mustache.

My DPI was set at 125% so changed it to 100% as you suggested but that had no effect on on the way the test is displayed. Do you know of anything else I can try? This issue is a real problem because the only I can get the layout the way I want it to look is by trial and error.

Enjoy the Road,

I tried some 10px Arial out on a test page, and it does look a bit smaller in the browser. Never noticed it before (but I only use the extra small size for copyright notices). So I went on a Google hunt for answers. :D
Nothing definite, lots of stuff about Arial bold not displaying correctly in browsers.
Lots of recommendations to switch to Verdana for tiny type since it tends to be easier to read at small sizes.
Font styles aren't up to you, they are up to the browser. Fonts are rendered differently on different systems, especially when you get down into the smaller versions.
There isn't anything you can do about this, besides experiment with different fonts.

You might have a look at this site to see how various fonts and sizes will look "live":

Set your font size to 1em (for 10px) and see how it compares to your preview. I'd try Verdana next to Arial at the same size and see if that might give you better results.
Hope this helps a bit. :)

Thanks, Per! I've helped myself to a few of your posts here and there as well :D
These forums have taken me from just starting out in VSD to building responsive sites in the Editor.
