Editting a Page Done In VSD - Post ID...
If a page is done in VSD and uploaded on S-Drive can it be edited on S-Drive? The reason I ask, is I am thinking about doing a new web site for a club I am in, but I want other selected members to be able to edit portions of it.
Sure, you can do that with Direct FTP or through the Dashboard. Just note, the next time you publish with VSD, those changes would be lost.

Scott any chance that VSD could be made to detect that changes were made to the site from the dashboard and ask the user in VSD if it should continue with the upload?

I can't hear what I'm looking at.
It's easy to overlook something you're not looking for.
This is a site I built for my work.(RSD)

This is my personal site used for testing and as an easy way to share photos.(RLM imported to RSD)

Not too sure on that one. I would have to ask. I am sure anything is possible.

I plan to let others edit the site I am working on. My instructions shall be to point to the backup folder and download the last saved VNU file according to date.
They work on this and then upload it. That then becomes the latest version. There may be other files involved but I intend to tackle that if and when it becomes a problem. There is one thing. It could be a problem if more than one person at a time trys to update. I do not expect this as a problem as in our case our committee members will be allocated times or I will set up some warning system, again I shall not worry about this initially. I estimate there will be up to 4 working upon the site.
I must admit I have not put this in practice yet but other than additional copies of VSD I cannot see any major hurdles.
One possibility of preventing dual mods is for the latest file to be re uploaded with a warning on the index page showing it is being worked on. Removed once completed. A sort of watermarked image added temporarily to indicate a change is imminent.
If you have a problem Jack contact me on my site http://inkmon.org and I am sure a method can be found. I do not wish to leave an email on a public forum
The good news is the backup folder holds each upload copy so it is no problem to backtrack if a problem occurs.

Hi Prism,
What you want to accomplish is not what VSD has been made for. You'll run into trouble for sure. I suggest you take another approach:
Divide your website in a static and an dynamic part. The static parts describes your business (organisation, club, association, whatever), its goals, (email)address, tel. nr., admission forms, and so on. The dynamic part is for instance a news section, a guestbook, a photo album, also whatever. I guess you understand what I mean.
The static part you make with VSD. The dynamic part is set up with some blog system (www.blogger.com for instance, many freeware blog systems exist). Then you include the blog inside the VSD static part with an IFRAME. You use the 'add HTML' option for this.
I've done many websites this way, and this is easy to maintain, especially for your 'customers' (friends, colleagues), far easier than what you intend to do. http://www.mentheda.nl , my tennis club, is a Dutch language example. The front page is a mix of a menu made with VSD and a weblog inside an iframe. The menu switches to static pages, the weblog shows news, photos and so on and is maintained by the club members. Only maybe twice a year I need to update the static part.
Success, John

Don't forget about STREAM on your S-Drive account... And you can tie it in with PowerPost for easy updates to your "blog".

Living the dream, stocking the cream

Hey Phil, I didn't even know PowerPost exists! I guess I lived too long in the pre-PowerPost era! I'll try it out immediately. If it works like the description says it works, it's the ideal solution for combining static and dynamic information.
