Designer Themes - Best way to use...
I'm a pretty good webmaster but I completely suck as a web designer. I was hoping I could use one of the beautiful themes CC has created to get my farm's website up and kicking. Thus far, not so much.
I'd appreciate suggestions as to which, if any, of the CC VSD designer themes might work well for a farm and then ideas on how to customize it to become my own.
This may sound silly and needy but "Dang it Jim, I'm an webmaster and a farmer, not a web designer" and I'd really appreciate any help any of you more designing gifted can give me. Shoot, I'll send gourmet garlic, specialty onions, shallots, or lamb to anyone who really wants to pitch in and give me a hand.
I'M DESPERATE!!! You can take a look at islandmountainfarm.com if you want to see how far I got before I got bogged down. I pretty much have all the way cool tools CC has created so your imagination is the only limit as to what I can potentially do with the web site. The only other site I have up, and it will show you how stuck I am in the 90s , is at tonasketfarmersmarket.com
Thanks, and by the way we grow great food and our lamb is to die for.

I had a look at your site and VSD is about the easiest to use to create a great website. I believe that a site is a personal thing and if you go through the available themes I am sure one will be close to the one you are thinking of. You have a great sheep graphic you could still use a theme but change the top graphic.
I have many skills but design not one of them but do a bit of browsing and see what other farmers have on their sites to get ideas. Check out their descriptions meta tags and see what makes them tops in the search engines lists.
I think that should read " we grow great food that our lambs do die for"

Thanks for the comments. Yes our lambs do die for, hardest and most rewarding time of the year is fall. We make sure our animals are well cared for and that their deaths are quick, painless, and the animals are treated with respect. Herbivores eat plants and die. That is the way of things.
Lamb ham? I had never heard of it. Checked it out and we may have to consider giving it a try. Always looking for added value products for the farm. We make some beautiful garlic braids.
Ah, the English, of course you're going to appreciate fine lamb. My understanding is that prior to WWII lamb was very popular in the States but during the war and with rationing, many peoples only exposure to lamb was actually mutton. Now the national average consumption of lamb is about 315 gms a year. We've been told by some of our customers that our lamb is the lamb for people who don't think they like lamb.
Well I'm still open for suggestions or at least an idea of how to gain some traction. Right now I'm just spinning my wheels. I do enough of that mowing pastures, doing it in front of the computer is a royal pain. I just now that if I can get pointed in the right direction I can make this work.

My father law raised lambs for several years and would give me hind quarters to run through my smoker.

Your site is coming together. It's very hard to give artistic recommendations on webdesign because everyone has different taste. There is a few things that might help it stand out. I think the background should contrast with the main page so the content will pop out at you. I think the header image is a little tall. Maybe crop out some of the Mt. to bring down the height then move the logo to a different location. Other then that your off to a good start.

I can't hear what I'm looking at.
