I have a comment and a question

I have noticed that I should be careful when using fancy fonts with Visual Site Designer which only reside in my computer. When my page is published, and if the other person's browser (Computer)doesn't support that font, it will display a standard font instead and probaly a larger size font which probalby will overlap into another text around the page. (I have seen some pages made with VSD showing that issue).

Question: From VSD, If I want a fancy font to show on the web (For example a Logo), how can I convert that fancy font into a graphic so it will show on anybody's browser ?

Do I need to separatly convert that font into a graphic using Photoshop for example ? It can be made within Visual Site Designer ?

On your object properties box check the "Allow advanced text". This will turn your text into an image showing perfect on all machines.

First let me mention that this is not a VSD issue, this is an internet issue. Anytime a non standard font is used, and not provided (not sure how that works myself) to the site viewer it will always display a default font no matter how the website is built. Just so you know that's nothing to do with VSD itself.

Other than that, I believe you can convert it within VSD by using the Advanced Text options in the program. I don't use VSD, but this article may help on how to use that feature. Good Luck

Thank you for your help. I didn't meant to blame VSD for this issue. I guess the same will happen if I write a page with Dreamwaver or plain HTML using a non standard font.

However as I mentioned, I have seen pages created with VSD, in which if the creator has not too much web developing experience, it will overlook this issue.

once you have used the advanced text to convert your font into an image, you can then add alternative text to make it google friendly.

Another option is to place an oblong blank object, using the object tool, and type in the text as button text , this does not solve the font issue, but it does resolve some spacing issues you may come across.

For logos containing text or headings, I would create them in Photoshop (or similar), then save as a PNG file. Keep the original Photoshop version on hand in case you need different sizes or other edits.
I've noticed with larger font sizes in Advanced Text, they can "deteriorate" after the page has been saved several times. Also, you'll have more options with your fonts when using another program (letter spacing, line height...).
And, as mentioned above, you can add alt text to your image within VSD.

Please explain sounds interesting, Is it done as a layer or what.

When you select Allow advanced text on the object properties box the alternate text entry will become available at the bottom of the object properties box.

When using the alt. text, do you type in the actual text in an alternative font or not? I would like a specific example, please. Also, if by using the "Alllow Advanced Text" the text is turned into an image, won't that considerably slow down the page loading time, especially if there are several other images on the page?

It would seem to me after reading several questions dealing with this same subject that we need a more complete and thorough discussion on using "Allow Advanced Text" and alternate text with specific examples.

No, Your typing text for users that don't have access to your images so they get the same information as everybody else. Ever wonder how a blind person can surf the web?


Your best example is right at your finger tips. Type in some alternate text and publish.


This all depends on how much you use it. Like all things in life moderation is the best policy. After all you can also have to much text on a page.
