Are thumbnails possible in VSD? -...

Is it possible to have thumbnail images? I've looked at one of the links in one of the other help posts which was a lightbox file, but I really need an idiots guide to using this if it's the only option.

I'd be happy with just thumbnails, but would really like the option to have a larger image centrered on a darker background, as in ebay etc.

Is it possible?

Thumbnails can be used with anything Janet, all they are is shrunken copies of a larger graphic.

A really really nice program to create any size graphic from your originals is EZ Thumbnails, it not only lets you create any size, lets you automatically add or remove text from the new files such as adding _tn to the end of any small thumbnails you make so you don't have to worry about renaming them.

The really MAIN thing that's great about EZ Thumbnails is it retains the graphic quality better than some major graphics programs do. Give it a shot.

IT's FREE Too!

Once you have it shrunk (and this is a great tool for resizing your graphics for any reason, especially if you have large images that you don't want to have to have people load such file sizes on) just put it in as an image like you would any other image.

To answer your question on the Lightbox, I know you can use it, I would imagine the code for it needs to be inserted using the HTML or other script tools within the program. I'm sure someone else here will be able to enlighten you more on that.

Thanks for the help, but at the risk of sounding really stupid, how do I get them into my VSD site? I want thumbnail images that I can click on to view a larger image?

Well there are 3ways you can do this. First would be as you mentioned above in your original post, to do a Lightbox or similar type setup. Someone else would need to help you on that part as I really don't use VSD myself, I use the HTML Editor.

Another way is to create a link setup for your thumbnail. Insert the thumbnail as the main image wherever it is you want it to be, then make it a link and have the link lead to a larger image. Have it open in a new page so it doesn't make people leave your site or create a new page for it to be on so that it is still within your site with navigation etc.

The third way would be to create a photo gallery which CC has a really nice photo gallery software. That would be a bit more involved, and although I could help you some with the gallery software, the VSD insertion of the gallery would need someone elses input.

I guess for the most part it depends on how many thumbnails you're planning to work with in order to decide which way to go. My shop's Home page has a good example of the Lightbox on it. This is an external home page which I created in HTML Editor so it's not part of my actual shop pages, just linked to it to seem like it is. The photos on that page (which will be changing in a short bit here for the new sale) are created with Lightbox2 which you can find here with instructions on setting it up:

Hopefully someone will have more info for you on how to use these things in VSD. If not soon I'll fire it up and see what I can figure out on it and let you know :)

Thank you so much, I really appreciate your offer! I have no doubt I'll crack it in the end, but could do with some support on the way, so thank you!

The effect on the link you give is exactly the effect I want!

Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
