I have an animated gif which functions properly in the preview screen of VSD, but once uploaded it is x'd out. The size of the image is shadowed out on the screen with an X in the upper left corner. I checked via FTP, and the .gif is in the remote file folder. Copied it again, but no luck. Do gifs need to be sent.... binary?

Amy this is the link you have for the missing image
http://www.wranglergirl.net/files/
So there isn't a name for the image file there...just the folder it should be in.

I know you believe you understand what you think I said...but I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not exactly what I meant.
It is in the folder! I've verified that. That's what's so perplexing. It's in the file folder, but won't display.
So you are saying that you verified the file folder called "files" and its in there? There are only two possibilites for what you are describing, either the file is not in the same folder as the image markup declares, or you have specified a height and width for your image and your file actually exceeds those parameters. If you have done the latter then I suggest taking out of your markup specified height and width for your image.

You need to add the image name to your url and then it might have a chance to display

CoffeeCup... Yeah, they are the best!
Well, I dunno... I click on the picture tool in VSD, then click on the page. Then I go to the files folder of my website and click the animated gif, then click open. I just did it again to verify I didn't miss anything. I save all my images are in the files folder. Again, it works in the preview window, but once uploaded it stops. And I never did changed the dimensions. I guess I'll open an HTML editor and see how it reads. Don't really want to do that - that's why I got VSD.
Maybe just delete the image in VSD, save, and reinsert it. That may correct whatever is wrong.

Well, I just looked at the "about_penning.html" page in the HTML editor, and there's no reference to the team_penning.gif at all. Now I'm really confused. I did a search for it and there's no reference to team_penning.gif.
So, the animated gif displays correctly in VSD and in the Preview window, but there's no team_penning.gif text on the screen when looking at the actual code. And it doesn't display at all after it's uploaded (since there's no image code for it that's not surprising.) Yes the .gif is saved in the Files folder on both my local drive and the remote. Uggghh! I'm just not "getting" it.

Some suggestions, Amy. Don't get the animated gif from your files folder, but from the original location. Then save everything under a NEW name, delete all files from your server, and upload everything anew (not only changed files), not with the built-in FTP option, but with a FTP software (also first delete everything on your server with a FTP software). I never use the built-in FTP option, always use another FTP software, always delete everything first before uploading a complete new version of a website, and never have problems... I can send you a free version (not crippled in any way) of WS_FTP, if you want to. It's an excellent FTP software.
Success, John
