I haven't had a thing to do with web sites since 1998 and haven't looked much at HTML since 2.0. My women's club has a web site and they are spending about half their yearly budget on its maintenance. I would like to put up a basic web site that can be maintained by us. It needs to contain these things:

An easily updatable event page.
A section devoted to the listing of material needed for our next project
Our current newletter (in pdf format)
An archive of past newsletters for the year (again in pdf)
An archive of years' past newsletters (pdf)
A photo gallery (updated monthly)
A contact page

For someone who isn't up-to-date technically but is willing to try, would any of the coffee cup products produce a good looking web site for us? Cost is a definite factor as this will probably be my little donation. We have a domain but no web hosting services. Any suggestions?

Thanks for your help,
Pam

VSD would give you the ability to visually created and update your site, to include all your requirements. S-Drive Streams would give you the ability to allow several other people to post messages on the stream. You can have everything hosted by CoffeeCup and still use your domain, to make things simple for you. Give the free 30 day trial a shot.
CoffeeCup... Yeah, they are the best!

Tom only missed 2 things out , CC hosting is free, no annual fee

Free trial will allow you to preview, but you can only use s drive hosting once you pay for registered version.

To edit your pages have to be done from pc with program installed, the stream however can be edited via email or from any mobile device with email access, so it looks like your in for a lot of Tea , in payment, will save them a fortune !

Thanks for your replies. I went out to look at the web sites. They are lovely! I have downloaded the VSD trial and played with it a bit. I think it is workable for me. How would I place pdf documents on my site?

Thanks again,
Pam

Make your text or a button. Make sure you click on the text or button to select it, then click on Link at the top of VSD. Now in the properties box that opens to the right click on browse. Now browse to the PDF and your all set.
Isn't that awesome!:)

Super. Sounds just too easy. Thanks for your help. I think I will purchase this weekend and get the ball rolling. One more question, when I purchase I will not have access to our domain. Need to get things going before I approach our web guy about the transfer. Will that be a problem?

No problem, When you purchase you will get a free CC S-drive account that you can publish to for testing until your Domain clears and you get a host. Otherwise you can just preview it in VSD if you don't want to publish.:)

One thing I should mention. You will have to recreate the site in VSD, as there are no import options for existing web pages. But VSD is so easy, you can have an even better site up in no time. :)

Rolly why for testing till you get a host ?

S drive is the host, (tough it does not have to be) and it can go live with CC url, and then add their own url later by changing cname records.

Chezsey :: worth thinking carefully about the user name for your cc url, before you add it to s drive, as it can appear in google searches if you stick with CC hosting long term

Idealy :: yourpurchasedurlname.coffeecup.com

It sounded like the process was already rolling and the decision was made.
