Whoohoo, I figured it out! Possible...

After I unistalled/cleaned/reinstalled for the third time and VSD 7.0 wouldn't open (yes, I followed all the guidelines given about administrator, compatibility, DEP, etc, etc, I started going into the files of the program.

I just happened to click on something that worked. Maybe it will work for others.

Computer>Local Disk>Program Files(x86)>CoffeeCup Software>Visual Site Designer>redist>vcredist_86

Once I was clicked into the "vcredist_86" file I got this:

"Mircrosoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Setup Wizard"
I checked the "Read & Accept license agreement terms"
and clicked on next. Finished the wizard and got the recommendation to go to this web site for ubdates:

http://support.microsoft.com/ph/8291#tab0

I went to that site but didn't know what I was looking for so I got out of it.

So, can anyone tell me what happened? What did that "wizard" do to my computer to finally get access to VSD 7.0?

I'm wondering if we get discounts on purchases for resolving our own support tickets, helping others in the forums resolve their issues and resolving our own forum questions?

I would pay $20 tp $30 extra to get this software easily applied to 64 bit operating systems. Especially, if you provided testimonies as to why you had to increase the price for 64 bit. I'm not sure my 64 bit system was the problem but if it was, I was ready to pay more to move on. In my case, it has been a week's worth of investigating, support tickets, frustration and almost giving up and moving on.

Thanks,
LeeAnn

p.s. My original problem is posted below. Thanks

Original Problem:

1. URL to your Website (THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT ITEM) None at this time
2. Operating system Windows 7 Home Premium updated
3. Version of the application VSD7.0
4. Trial or registered version Trial, trying to buy if it works on my system
5. What specific steps have you taken to create this issue? I installed, had the problem. Uninstalled, cleaned the computer, restarted. Originally I could get a "compatibility tab" and set it to the XP pack 3, checked my DPI size, set "run as Administrator", took my "User Account Control" to never notify. Tried to open the program again. Got the same message.
6. Does it occur every time? I've tried to install twice.
7. Can you recreate the issue on another computer? When I installed on my laptop I could open the program but didn't have full capabilities. My laptop is Windows Vista Home Premium service pack 2, Intel Pentium Processor 1.73 GHz RAM 1.00 GB 32-bit Operation System

The system I can't get the program to open on is 64-bit Operating System Intel Core i7 920@2.67 GHz 2.65 GHz RAM 12.0 GB

I sent a support ticket and got the standard response of: Run as Admin, change compatibility tab, Check DEP, etc., etc., even though I told them I already did this twice since I did an install/clean/reboot/reinstall.

With the second reinstall on my 64-bit operating system I don't get a compatibility tab as I did the first time I installed (see attached photo).

I will uninstall/clean/reinstall for the third time as I wait for an aswer to this post.

Would a week's worth of time be appropriate for trying to install a program? Should I move on to something else? I'm really trying here and need to have a web site that I can access. I've bought two of the books, the one on HTML5 & CSS3 plus on color and have read them both while waiting for a solution. I have read the forums. I have called the office but that is 36 hours before an answer. Again, I'm trying.

I have had computer programming in high school (1982) and some in college (1985) so I "get" computer programming. I once had a "O" instead of a zero in a program and spend 5 hours trying to find that one mistake that wouldn't allow my program to run. So, I understand patience with programs. However, I also purchased in June 2010 a custom built $2700 computer for video editing and think I may have purchased more than I can handle. Especially, after trying to install this program. Anyone want to buy a computer?

Thanks a bunch!
LeeAnn

I'm 99% sure if you simply disable UAC (User Account Control) in Vista or Windows 7, VSD loads like normal w/o any compatibility tweaking or Run As Administrator hassles. I understand, though, some would rather not lose the extra bit of security UAC may provide.
