Visual Site Designer and how to...

Hi all, I'm a "trial" user and like the ease of use of the Visual Site Designer. My programming skills are limited to AS400 so it really helps me with html. Before I decide what to buy I'd like to throw my goals out there for consideration. Advice and suggestions cheerfully accepted!

Our company site will have three goals:

1) Explain what we do and market our service and increase visibility with a site map.

2) Create a secure user account process that once verified allows users access to (1) secured page. I don't want to force them to that page after logging in - just make it available by a link. That secured page will be the same for all authenticated users and contain an embedded iframe for YouSendit's "Site Drop". Site Drop is just a mechanism allowing users to upload entire folders (up to 300 mb) at once. I want to prevent malicious users/spammers from uploading huge files. Many of our clients aren't very computer savvy and uploading a folder makes it easier for them.

3) I'd like to have a current event page with the ability to embed video from youtube, c-span, etc.

Since some of the Coffee Cup applications aren't compatible with IIS7 from what I gather. So on the host side I will have to approve both the user account on the IIS7 server manually as well as the "matching" user account on YouSendit. (I think)

Am I making sense with my approach? I'm doing this as a volunteer and want to make it as easy as possible for all involved. Which bundle would be best for the above scenario?

Ooops...almost forgot one question! I create the website on an external drive before uploading to my host server yet some of the files created while building the site land on the primary drive. How do I make all the files live on the external drive? I use linux to create an image of my primary partition. When I restore a clean image it wipes my primary partition completely. Hopefully CoffeeCup is my solution and I'll be able to contribute on the forums once I get going. If it matters my client pc is Win7 X 64 Ultimate.

Thanks All and Seasons Greetings!

Dave

Although VSD has an html tool to add code to the page, the HTML Editor would be the better choice for including advanced functions, now and in the future.
CoffeeCup... Yeah, they are the best!

Hi Tom,

Thanks for the reply! I'm playing around with the Password Wizard now. It sounds like what you are suggesting it to use the Visual Site Designer to set up the layout and then use the HTML Editor to add additional code to individual pages as necessary.

VSD is a great tool, but for some of the advanced functions you describe as wanting to incorporate into the site, I'd forgo VSD all together and start from scratch with the HTML Editor. It will be easier in the long run.
CoffeeCup... Yeah, they are the best!

Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
